For the past couple of weeks I've been having a problem with a slow leak in the L/F tire. Took it to two different places, neither could find a leak. So I started to check it everyday. One day 35lbs, next day 35 lbs, day after that 34.5 lbs, following day 29lbs. Today, it dropped from 35 to 22lbs overnight.

So I call around, find a place that has Integrity's (yeah, yeah, I've heard the stories about what people think of them, but it is an equivalent tire, and the other 3 still have 20000 miles of tread left), and they can't find a leak either, even after increasing the pressure to 50lbs. With some of the losses I've been seeing, this tire is just unsafe, so I have it replaced.

Naturally, I filed a claim on Toyota's warranty for the tire.

Has anyone else filed a claim? If so, what's the approximate turn around time?

    Thanks,
    Shawn
PS It's not someone messing with the tire, the car's kept in a locked garage at night.

I had that problem with my Classic Prius, a leak suddenly appeared after doing some offroading. (I know. Bad idea. But the resulting photos came out great.)

Anywho, I deflated the tire almost completely then reinflated, pumping in a lot of humid outside air into the tire.

That single fix did the trick. The problem never came back. I'm still not sure why. My guess is that I jarred the tire and caused a rim leak.

I doubt that was the case here, the first place I brought it to broke it down/applied bead sealer, replaced the valve, and remounted it (gratis by the way).

But that is something I'll keep as future reference.

    Thanks,
    Shawn

I'm quite curious myself. Not actually being able to find a leak is obviously frustrating. A thought is that air could only leak out when weight was put on a specific part of the tire... some type of shape defect that will hopefully be covered by the warranty.

Not to insult your intelligence but are you checking the tires after driving and then the next day after they sat all night in the garage? the pressure difference would be about what your seeing depending on when you check the tires. Just a thought really.... and i like the idea of the tire shape maybe being the couse becouse it sure could be. i have seen that happen and inspection of the inside usually shows something like this.

No offense taken, but I'd normally check 'em in the morning. In the evening, they're up 2-5 lbs above the cold temp, but even in that case, you can compare both front pressures and both rear pressures (unless one side of the car had been in full sun).

I'll report back on how the warranty reimbursement goes.

    Thanks,
    Shawn

I would have guessed the valve stem, but you later said you replaced it.
