The threshold between 10 and 25 mph EV speed limit is 158F (70C) coolant temperature.
Are you sure your coolant was above 158F?

Now that some of you have the tweak installed, what do you feel
if you're in moderate regen and flip to Neutral without moving
your braking foot? Does force diminish or increase and if so,
for how long if you don't compensate?

I have my car ABS Actuator fixed today, now the car stop too fast and the brake actions does not match the Energy Monitor activity plus the pedal it is harder to push.
When the brake it is apply and the car stop fully it shows that the Electric Battery is supplying power to the electric motor, only when you push the pedal harder to the floor the supply of energy stop also after stopping and the car is let roll down hill by gravity there is no show of energy flowing either way.
This brake solution need more work done

The update is for the response to striking a pothole.

What you are seeing on the display is correct. If you don't press hard on the brake, electricity really is being fed to the motor even though the vehicle isn't moving. This is similar to the crawl behavior of automatic transmissions.

If you press extremely hard, the hill-assist feature will activate to keep the brake engaged momentarily while you lift your right foot to transfer it to the accelerator.

In the first 4 months, my Prius had one incident of brake grabbing in reverse and three incidents of braking delay (less than one second delay) while going forward at under 25mph. Only one of those delay incidents occurred while going over a pothole, as far as I recall.

Since the ABS ECU update two weeks ago, I haven't had any of those issues so far. However, I now notice that if I am attempting to brake at a constant rate, there seems to be a braking fade as I slow down, so I need to give the pedal an extra push. This is definitely a new braking sensation that I did not experience before the update.

after recall i am not able to reproduce the pothole/braking acceleration so i have to think it was successfully addressed... but all the media attention makes me weary. i've lost plenty of faith in a car company i previously felt was supremely superior to the rest. maybe i'm a victim of the media, since my car SEEMS to be just fine now... hmmmm... Any other 3rd Gen Prius owners out there considering dumping their '10s???

Welcome. I'm sorry you aren't happy with your Prius any more. What do you believe is better made? Do your research including the recall history of the manufacturer & the model of interest. Mass produced cars are made by large corporations. They may give lip service to caring about owners but not one of them is going to go out of their way if you have a problem.

I think it's been mostly media hype from the beginning, there are no verifiable safety defects in the 2010 Prius unless you count the brake issue which I don't really think is a safety problem. I think my 2010 Prius is one of the safest cars I have ever owned, maybe the safest. I doubt you would ever regret keeping the car if you like it otherwise.

I work in a city (Kenosha, Wis.) with terrible city streets. Potholes that go unfilled and could be filled with subcompacts and lots of asphalt patches on concrete pavement. When I hit a rough spot it's like the brakes not only fail to work but the car lunges forward. Very disappointing.

    Update Troubles? Anyone else?

We purchased our 2010 Prius in the first week of January. During the first week of March, we thought we take it in for the update. We haven't seen it since!

The car seemed to be working perfectly, but to make sure the warranty was kept up, we decided to take it in anyway. After about an hour connected to the computer the tech said he was getting a code for a bad steering angle sensor. A week later they replaced that then said they had code for a problem with the traction control system. They said they'd have to special order a special replacement for that; however, it was coming from Japan and a arrival date was unknown. So, the little red Prius as been at the dealership since the 4th of March.

My question is, have any of you folks had such difficulty?

Thank you for your time, suggestions, or input! I appreciate it!!

This sounds bogus. It could be possible, but it has the air of fish around it.

I wonder if the tech screwed up somehow?

Did they give you a loaner car to drive? If not you need to ask for one, they owe it to you.

You need to call or go in and talk to them every day or two, find out what is going on. I agree with Tom, something isn't right. If you don't get good answers from the dealer contact Toyota and see if they will help, they certainly should.

Why on earth would you want to dump a perfectly good, no, great car??? As mentioned above, look up recalls for all makes of cars. The 2010 Prius has only this minor brake issue that doesn't make your car unsafe to drive. How is that enough to make you worried? I would say that you have fallen victim to the hype. Especially since it's not even about your particular model!

I didn't feel they were complaining so much as observing that they feel different.

That's what this fix is for, so I don't understand your point? Did you take the car in for this fix and it didn't work?

I wonder if the lemon law would apply in this case. It's a two month old car and has been sitting in the shop for two weeks. Outrageous!

At the very least the dealer should give you a free rental car while your car is in the shop.

Just so you folks know, we love the car!! We think it's a great little machine. Yes, They did give us a nice loaner, so all is well there.

To be a bit clearer for Going Red... What I said was all I know! Doesn't say much, I know; but that's all I know.

We really have gotten the impression that the dealer is doing all they can and they have been very polite; they just don't seem to have much information either. As far as the "Lemon Law" is concerned. May have to see about using it, but it would be just to trade for another car and not to get our money back. Love the car, just wish we had it! LOL!!

    Re: Update Troubles? Anyone else?

Sounds to me like the tech did NOT maintain 12v battery voltage above 11.4v during the reflash. This is why the instructions must be followed very closly, which says to hook up a power supply. It irritates me to no end when fellow techs try to short cut everything. Moral of the story is: if batt voltage drops below 11.4v during a reflash bad things happen.

    Re: Update Troubles? Anyone else?

    Interesting to note here:

When they did the update, they had it in a bay right near a window where I could watch what was going on. They didn't put any sort of battery charger or voltage maintainer on the car. Having been a mechanic at one time (many years ago!) I would have known it had they done it. So, you could very well be correct. The voltage dropped and the computer didn't update correctly. Wouldn't surpise me at all.

Thanks for the thought; however, now what? It's in their hands and hopefully, they'll eventually get all thing ironed out.

    For Tumbleweed;

We've been in contact with the dealer on a weekly basis; but it's same answer each time. "As soon as the part comes in we'll put in right away and let you know when the car is done and you can some and pick it up. However, we don't know exactly when the part is going to get here. It's on order and is coming from Japan from Toyota there."

Thanks again for all your suggestions. It's appreciated.
