Information for nav/audio upgrade

reverse is still pin 29 under the panel by the parking brake. Speed is the purple wire into the jbl. He has pictures on the second entry on his thread.

I have had a back up camera installed for a few weeks now. The day after installation I needed to parallel park, and it made things much easier.

I installed the boyo 420 camera. It attaches on the two screws on the top of the license plate. The oem camera looks better, but I did not know that until I put this on, and I only paid $60. Installation was a pain. To install the camera the hatch panels need to be removed. 6 of the plastic things stuck. A friend had a removal tool, but I did a lot of trying before realizing one existed. The boyo has a 4 wire cable, and I attached power to the blue acc going to turn on amplifiers. I routed the wire through the hole in my license plate next to the screw, and drilled one hole in the hatch behind the license (modifying license plates is illegal in my state, but I don't think it is really an issue).

The voice recognition is actually helpful on navigation, phone, and ipod. There is a rather lengthy time delay, but it gets the right thing 90% of the time (it was useless when my voice was scratchy with the flu).

I am using the basslink subwoofer, but have not installed a quick disconnect yet. If anyone has a suggestion for connector that can handle the 3 wires at 20 amps, I would like to install this. I also want to know if you would velcro it or mount it. My subwoofer is currently bungied down.

I still plan to replace speakers, or the speakers and add an amplifier. The system sounds good on some music, but needs help on other types.

 

IMHO the gps is good on the Pioneer. It has good maps and dead reckoning off the speed pulse and its internal sensors keeps the car in the right place on the map once it calibrates. It is very fast at recalculating routes when I go off route (which has been for traffic conditions lately).

It sometimes picks the wrong house on the block from addresses, but it picks the right block. Voice imput on address works, but it is a little slow and clunky. The points of interest often pick one far away, but work well when you use the near me search. I did put the traffic reciever in, and it is quite useless. There seems to be a time delay on actual traffic, it does however get movie times and gas station prices entered correctly.

Garmin is probably better, but the other features were more important to me. If you have a specific feature you like, I can check out how it works on my unit.
