Probably a silly question, but since I keep the fob in my pocket, and I've heard of other cars whose fobs recharge when inserted in their "key" slots, will I need to replace the battery in my fob, and if so, how? A couple of times I've had to manipulate the fob to get the door to unlock, so I wonder if the battery is getting low.

    Thanks.

Nope. The Prius fob does not recharge when in the slot.

If there is no longer a red LED flash on the fob when you press any fob button (you do not have to be near the car when testing this) then the fob battery is dying.

The owner's manual has instructions for opening the fob to change the battery. A tiny screwdriver is then needed to open the battery cover inside the fob.

Your typical drug store that carries cameras and watches will have the batteries you need and they are much cheaper than having the dealer do it for you. The batteries are about $5 on average.

That little button you slide to allow removal of the mechanical door key? Keep pushing that same thing to release the fob cover, and slide the cover off parallel to the body of the fob. If it's never been removed you may need to pry it a little with that tiny screwdriver to get it started.
