I turn on the heat and get a very good smell of what I am assuming is a dead mouse.

Without the heater blowing, the smell isn't really too bad at all.

I've searched the forums and found one old posting with photos on mouse proofing, but nothing that really points me on how I might at least TRY to find the remains and remove them.

Anyway, the mouse-proofing thread talked about a good "Prius heat efficiency mods" page, but I can't find it.

Any Help here:( Of course, I already checked around the cabin filter with no luck.

Opps, I did more searching and I finally found the heat mods page and a write-up by Patrick that might help, but any more suggestions gladly taken!!!

    Hi Cyber,

Can't really help you with your current mouse problem - but here in Oz someone has invented a better mouse trap. It is in episode three

New Inventors: Watch or Download Video

Hope you can get the mouse out.

    Cheers

    K,

I suggest that you remove the two black plastic cowl covers that are below the windshield wipers, to gain access to the ventilation openings in the bulkhead. If you don't find the mouse there, then you'll also need to remove the four ventilation louvers in the dashboard to gain access to the ventilation ducting within the passenger cabin. I believe there are prior posts on how to remove the louvers, associated with MFD replacement. If you have questions let me know.

After you have this access, hopefully you will be able to retrieve the dead mouse. I recommend that you install wire mesh screening over the ventilation openings to prevent more mice from entering. For a complete job you will also need to remove the hatch trim and install screening over the large vent opening on the left side as well as the traction battery ventilation exhaust on the right side.

    Good luck.

Hello, this happened to me about 2 years ago. Ended up pretty much taking apart the whole dash, however that sounds worse than it actually is. I found the mouse/rat stuck near where the cabin air filter resides, stuck within a white plastic grid that resembles a mini plastic milk crate. To get there, I pretty much started pulling apart (where appropriate, of course) all the dash panels I could, then the big black horizontal panel. When that comes off, I think the chances are pretty good you'll find 'em somewhere.
