I've occasionally had to accelerate a little harder than I
would have otherwise *intended*, because some impatient numbnuts
is chewing my back bumper wanting me out of the way. Not that
my doing so fixes the underlying problem, in most cases... where
the right way to address it would be a suitable authority pulling
him over, seizing the license he no longer deserves, and calling
a cab to take his sorry nice person home.
    .
But there are unfortunate limits on what we're able to control.

I have a 2008 Prius, exact year as Mr Sikes.

Yesterday, I was travelling in said Prius at 50mph on a 6 lane road, punched the accelerator to the floor and kept it there. After 3 seconds of acceleration and still keeping the accelerator down, I stepped moderately on the brake and my vehicle immediately slowed down, no hesitation.
So I sped up to 55mph now, held the accelerator fully down and then really jammed on the brakes.
I'm here to tell you, ...you don't really want to do this!
If it wasn't for the seat belts, I would have been sporting an attractive front windshield in my clothing repertoire. This car has brakes like no other I've driven in 37 years.
(A few more attempts at this Tom Foolery and same result.)

Although the above is NOT an attempt at unintentional acceleration, at no time have I either experienced an unintended acceleration event.

(I have 12K miles, almost 13K on the car thus far)

    Sincerely,

    ZC1

13K miles and (as of tomorrow) 11 full months since I bought my 2004.

Not a bit of UA, although I get IA every time I press the accelerator pedal.

I am so glad the weather is warming up and I'm getting > 50mpg again.
