I Beat the EPA--Post 'em here

Added another data point on the mpg chart. Now you can compare cumulative mpg with the mfd mpg. The mfd mpg is a per-tank number. The takeaway is that I've averaged 56.1 mpg over 15,000 miles. I'm very happy with that.

 

Finally reached lifetime 60.0 MPG at 4500 miles.

 

I just bought my 5th tank of gas for my 2009 Touring. Gas mileage was 54.2 on my last tank, best so far. I'm very pleased.

 

almost 3 years and 60K miles of ownership, and it just won't stop. Best car on the road. And this was only 2/3 way through the tank.

 

We've averaged right around 52 mpg on our 2007 since we've had it. Almost 70,000 trouble-free miles, except for the wiring harness that was eaten by rats.

 

Evan, this is the longest thread of posts where the OP gives specific instructions, and no one follows them. Kind of makes me want to post multiple pic's (except I've never had below epa) of mileage under the EPA.

Ok, here's my all time best, from last summer. For a while, and at the 1/2 tank mark, I thought I might get my first & only EIGHTY mpg's tank-full !!



But it was not meant to be. After a batch of short trips, the mpg's got sucked down a bit, and by the time the gas tank was running low, I threw in the towel. Still, this was my best ever:



Oh well, maybe 800 per tank will happen next summer ... a bit more air in the tires, a bit longer on the EBH, and who knows.

Hey all! I just bought a 2007 Prius with only 20K miles on it and so far I love it. I checked my first full tank refill yesterday and I'm very pleased with the 53 MPG the car returned. I increased the tire pressure to 47 PSI; other than that, I'm just driving it as I drove my Camry for years upon years. I have a 100 mile commute (total both ways) and 90% is 70 MPH freeway speed. Btw, I LOVE THIS WEBSITE!!!

 

11.6k miles so far. Best tank is 59.1 calculated / 57.4 on MFD.

 

149k Miles on my 2004 prius. I typically avg 53 on MFD. Best tank was on a trip from NH to MA, 65mpg on MFD (it was all downhill)

 

For the 12 months of 2009, I drove my 2008 Prius 25,491 miles and used 497.77 gallons for an MPG of 51.2. I drive in and around Chicago; snow and rain, hot and cold. I track my stats on an Excel spreadsheet and don't rely on the figures the Prius gives me. From June throuh August, the AC is running and I got 54.45mpg, driving 6,913 miles. During January, February and December, I drove 6,539 miles and got only 45.59mpg, so I guess the heater takes a toll on mpg and not the AC. I love this car!!!

 

I just purchased a 2007 Prius last night. The drive home was 87 miles and I averaged 56.2 according to the car calculated mpg. I was worried about achieving enough mileage to justify the car but if it stays anywhere near this I will be very happy. I commute 140 miles round trip each day plus ferry the kids around so over the past 3 years that was about 48000 each. Lets hope this lovely piece of engineering can hold up.

 

My best tank was 70.8 mpg and my average over the past 10,000 miles is 60.9 mpg. I live just outside of Phoenix and I was wondering - does everyone else who gets higher averages live in a warm climate also?

 

You're doing a bit better than me here in MA, but I find that since I started using pulse & glide 2 months ago, my average has gone from 53 mpg (over the 1st 20k miles since last June) to around 58 mpg since then (3.5k later - I drive a lot).

Last tank was 70.9 (best ever), but I'm pretty sure thats a "bladder artifact" that I'll pay for next time I fill up, since the MFD had me at 63.5.

This is a longwinded way of saying that living in AZ no doubt helps, but one can do well enough even in Northern states too.

High AND low temps kill mpg's. Batteries in freezing weather are less efficient, and batteries get used for AC in hot weather.

 

Here I thought I was doing well with my 52.6 avg since it got warm here in Indiana. This was my first winter with my car and the winter 45-48 mpgs SUCKED! but I did like the tire light coming on to tell me to fill them.

I got them filled with N2 so my mpg's got up closer to 48 unless I was on the interstate. If I had wanted crappy mileage like that I would have gotten the darned Honda (why oh why did they ruin the Insight?). But my husband works for Toyota so with the discount and pckg 2, I ended up paying almost the same... I love those discounts.

But I do love my car. The lower-guilt to driving-joy ratio is worth every penny I paid for this car. I am excited about the Toyota/Tesla relationship. Someday I hope to laugh about how excited I get everytime I hit over 50 mpgs.

I am learning to hypermile. Southern Indiana is pretty hilly so I get to coast a lot but I do have to watch out for the coal trucks.. yes, I do realize the irony...

 

I've had my 08 for almost 3 years now. 32K miles.
My best tank has been 54mpg. I have learned in the winter that the heater takes it's toll on mileage. But if I keep the heat below 72 degrees I can keep mileage above 49mpg.
