All the upgrade will give you is updated maps. There is no improvement in performance or commands. So, if the areas you currently travel and the maps are sufficient, the upgrade may not be worth it to you.

doesn't the update also remove the "only touch screen when not moving" lock?

It depends from what version you are upgrading. If the OP had to "Agree" before using the NAV, then the answer is yes.

What the update will give you is much more current information concerning the such things as added/corrected roads streets ec, but also updated Points Of Interest in your area. That's why I upgraded up to 9.1. It was worth it to me!

I paid $175. Pretty much every time I cannot find a address, it's cause I have the wrong address info, or I entered say for example, N. instead of North..it's small thngs like that will trip, you up..

Toyota sent me something trying to sell me the new NAV map upgrade for $199. As inexpensive as computer map data is these days, I think $199 is way to much.

I agree. I'm sticking with what I have, it's pretty rare that I want to go somewhere that it can't deal with. I do use the system more than I thought I would, but $200 is way too much for an upgrade in my opinion.

I put the bucks into a new TomTom which now covers Mexico (not that I plan to drive there). If you subscribe to their upgrade service, maps can downloaded once a quarter for under 100$/yr.

I have upgraded from v3.2 to version 9.1. There was a difference since there has been a lot of new development where I live. Don't pay dealer prices. I got a new DVD on eBay. The newer they are the more they cost. Make sure you get the correct "generation". (My 04 is gen 4).

Guess I'll post a followup. I've now moved to Hawaii and brought CARMYNE with me. I purchased a ver 9 DVD on EBAY for Gen 5 and it loaded up fine. Turns out that Hawaii maps are included (Thanks alanh) but it doesn't include POI data.

Initially, I tried to select a region that includes Hawaii and discovered that there isn't one. However, I can view the Hawaii map and it tracks my location just fine. Since I can't select the Hawaii region, I can't find a POI by name and I don't seem to be able to find an address because it says there are no cities within 20 miles.
All of the street names and towns appear on the map and it will give me turn by turn directions to a location that I mark on the map. So it looks like I'll have to use Google Maps and my memory points to get around. :(

Anyway, just thought I'd provide this information in case anyone else takes the same boat.

I didn't bother and won't bother. I haven't had any issues that I couldn't figure out with existing maps. I've actually been comparing my Android nav system to the onboard system and coming up with some interesting results. The Android always seems to choose more creative routes that sometimes seem to circumnavigate heavy city traffic better than the onboard system. I have a friend who threw in his Blackberry's nav app for comparison and the three would often choose slightly different results. Kind of weird.

Keep in mind that a new disk should be out in a month or two.

Aloha! Just moved to Oahu and got my car via boat last week. I have a 2005 (Gen 4) Prius. I recently got a hold of a v10 disc, which seems to be loading fine, but I still don't see anything but the compass when driving around. Will Hawaii only work for Gen 5 and beyond, perhaps?
