I had the same problem with my HTC TyTn II and Prius GPS/Audio unit.
Gave up eventually and entered them manually so it made me think about which one I wanted and which category to enter them as so I could speed dial the important ones while moving.

We have a 2010 V with the 'Nav package... I had an older (3 years) LG phone (8360?) that required manual entry of the contacts, one at a time! the transfer wouldn't happen as implied... I just recently upgraded to a new LG Chocolate touch and it instantly transferred all of the contacts in about two seconds when prompted. It has to do with the version of your phone's address book software...

    Good Luck!

PS: I was selective about who was added from my old phone's contact list too as it took a while!

Bluetooth on the Prius is flaky at best, and not very compatible. Check out this site to see what, if any, features of your phone will work:

It's Bluetooth itself. Newer security restrictions prohibit bulk transfer in many circumstances.

My original bluetooth phone in my 2004 allowed an ALL transfer. My newer phone didn't. You have to select each entry individually. It's a pain, but at least there's no exposure of typos, since all you do is send.

The 2010 is the same way.

I had this problem with my Sprint HTC Hero.

The phone needs to support Bluetooth "OBEX" transfers, which many phones do not. I did find a way to do it, however. I had to "backup" my phone contacts to a v-card file (.vcf) on the phone (using a third-party app), transfer the contacts to my laptop, then use the laptop's OBEX transfer capability to transfer it to the Nav unit. A bit ugly, but it does work. Here's a link to what I did:

Go back one post (to #10) in that thread for another link for a more general description of the process.

It actually has nothing to do with security, neither on your phone or your NAV - it's whether or not your phone supports Bluetooth OBEX (Object Exchange). Many don't. It's simply a Bluetooth capability your phone provider chose not to implement.

I am able to transfer all contacts from both my Sprint Mogul as well as my wife's Droid. No problem whatsoever.
