Finally I'm to pick up the Black package 6 tomorrow. I am very excited. Since this will be a company car, I got a total from the dealer, but (of course :) ) it was higher than I expected.

    Here is the breakdown:

    Dealer says MSRP is: $26842.00
    WA state tax (8.1%): $2197.13
    A state license: $58.00
    "EMG MED\ADMIN FEE": $6.50
    Doc fee: $35.00
Transportation fee (from dealer to dealer, this was a trade): $283.00

    TOTAL: $29421.63

QUESTION #1: I know they had to trade over at least 150 miles so I do not really take issue with the transportation fee (should I)?

QUESTION #2: We had agreed on "MSRP", which from toyota.com com I get to come out to $26,580.00, which is $262 less than what the dealer is saying is MSRP.

Is there a common option that would account for the $262?

QUESTION #3: Overall, is this a reasonable deal?

Thank you for your help and analysis.

There may be a transportation fee from port to the original dealer, which could account for the $262. They tacked on some outrageous amount for cost of the truck to drive ours out, but Southeast Toyota is known for adding large numbers to their window stickers. I would carefully look over the window sticker and compare to what they're trying to charge you. That may include floor mats or something.

You got a good deal on the doc fee. We got really gouged there. Learned our lesson for next time.

Sounds OK to me except those couple hundred unexplained dollars. We got a package 5, which came out to $26100 after Toyoguard, transportation fee, floor mats, registration fees and taxes (WI 5%)

Good luck, let us know how it goes.

$262 could be the preferred or accessory package (floors mats, cargo net)

Not sure what package 6 means there.
I got about the same deal Black w/leather seats, high end sound system, lots of floor mats, homelink system, and other goodies rolled in. Also got a lot out trading in a 2001 Lexus.

the $262 could be a sticker price hike! Check the sticker.

sticker for my prius went up around $80 between the time I ordered it and got it.. I contracted for "MSRP" not an actual number  so guess what.... I forked over the $80 extra

    Good Luck!

THANK YOU to all who have replied. I will know tomorrow for sure.

Al: Ya, I was wondering if there was a slight price increase.

I am gathering that the consensus is that if this is to be an MSRP deal, then it is not too far off.

Thank you again for all your help.

I was charged exactly $262 for the preferred accesory package. It came with floor mats, cargo net, and the first aid kit.

Pity for the 8.2% tax, I pay 7% sales tax, think that is outrageous.

Looks OK for your deal. In the SouthEast, they tack on "ToyoGuard" body protection at the tune of $600. If you are not paying for that then you are way ahead of the game.

When you get in the finance room, reject any extented warranty offer they throw your way. In fact, just say no to anything that fellow says. You have financing already? If you don't check out Capital One Auto Finance asap, and delay closing your deal by a day. Capital One is either going to give you a good deal, or give you leverage for a good deal from the dealer. Capital One can have a check for you by Saturday, I believe.

The MSRP has built into it transportation. I bought a Prius from a the Toyota
dealer in Salem OR and they delivered it to me in Kirkland WA. That was over 230 miles on a flat bed truck. I paid MSRP. MSRP has so much profit (~15%) built in that you should really question any amount over it. Dealers always move cars between different dealers, it's the nature of the business.

I totally agree with kjdunlap. Absolutely Reject the transport fee - that's built in unless it was written down on your written estimate upon reserving the car. (just curious, are they driving the car or flat-bedding it?)

and did you order an accessory pkg (i.e. mats, cargo net, etc)? If not, and this is the suspect $262 figure, tell your dealer they can keep the accessories and discount the total (or if you wish to keep the pkg, tell them they can just leave the equip as is if it's easier for them but assume the discount)

I realize these are all nickle and dimes in the end (the real cash savings would have materialized with an offer of $500-$1000 under MSRP)...but heck, a couple hundred discounted would get you and mate a nice dinner out to celebrate!

Oh, p.s... are you financing or paying cash?!?

If financing, have you applied for CapitalOne quote or quote from bank, etc? Go in armed with at least a bluff of what you 'could be' qualified for...

Consider automatic payment? That helps perhaps .1-.2%?

Negotiate under a given that you have a pretty good quote from an independent lender, but would be willing to finance with Toyota if it was 'close enough'.

    bad deal.

i just got my prius option 6 two days ago ... 1k under msrp.
they offered to deliver it (75 miles)...

but if you already agreed on msrp price, then they are trying to milk you for what you're worth (adding any accessories at msrp they can!).

with 8.75% tax (alameda county, ca)... grand total INCLUDING tax was still 28390.

Don't pay for lojack, Toyoguard, glass breaking alarm, etching or any of the other add on junk.

Also...unless the extended warranty can match the one Troy offers here don't buy that either.

Those are all ways they jack up their profits.

    Thanks again for the advice.

Hopefully the $262 is the "preferred accessory package".

Around here MSRP appears to be good, $1K under does not happen. The one dealer flat rejected my MSRP offer -- "too many on the waiting list at over MSRP". The other has $5K over on the sticker--didn't bother asking there.

I think it might be different in CA, a dealer in Fremont offered me MSRP and an airline ticket to come get it :)

This dealer is not offering or pushing the add-ons so far.

It is a company purchase, so I'll come armed with a single pre-filled check, so there will be no "finance guy" at all ;)

[font=Comic Sans MS:a102fb97e5]Congratulations! Great picture, but I can clearly see the power cord going from the tree to your new Prius... Talk about a "green" car...[/font:a102fb97e5]:)
