Looks really nice...Very Subaruish. Makes you wonder if there's any colaboration on the body platform. (eg: FT-86)

Looks very promising. Looks like they used the Prius drivetrain instead of the Camry hybrid drivetrain they put in the Horrible HS250h. Now if they only have a plug-in version as well when it comes to market! A quiet, comfortable Lexus with 50+ MPG! What a dream car!

In the Lexus forum, under 'OTHER CARS' I put a link to the Lexus web site that shows the same stuff as the video ... plus it gives added info. Still it's CONCEPT info.
NO epa guestimates as of yet

    SWEET !!!!!!!!!!!!

YES !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This is AWESOME !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    :)

This car is going to sell huge! Just like the IS, this thing is going to be a hit !

It's coming to the U.S. in early 2011. It's a whole new chassis, not shared with any other Toyota/Lexus vehicle.

    "expect a U.S. price around $27,000."

Looks like a Matrix to me. Nothing wrong with that, but a bit boring and of course not a Prius work of art. Still, I think I 'll put it on my short list of cars to look at when it comes time to buy a new car. I'll be deep into my mid-life crisis by then, and might switch to a car that does not creak, and the plastic is high quality -- or even better, absent.

That, or a Prius PHEV ;-)

Quotes from the extensive article at the Lexus site:

"The CT 200h features a 1.8-liter gas engine with Variable Valve
Timing with intelligence (VVT-i), a high performance battery, power
control unit, transmission with an electric motor generator, a power
split device to re-allocate power from the engine and electric motor
    generator according to operational requirements."

I don't see mention of two electric motors like the Prius.
I suspect this to be an error... but we'll see.

"In the interest of maximum fuel efficiency, particular attention has
been paid to the aerodynamic efficiency of every aspect of the CT
200h's design. The front and rear corners have been pulled in tight to
improve the flow of air down the sides of the vehicle and minimize
wind turbulence within the wheel arches. The sides of the cabin have
been tapered, the rear edge of the roof lowered and even the lower
body painstakingly detailed to optimize airflow. Completing the look
are unique 17-inch alloy wheels and blue badging specific to Lexus
    hybrid vehicles."

Very smooth, where are the rear wheel skirts?
No mention of actual FE/MPG figures yet.

Some have pointed out has a Subaru-ish look.
IIRC, Toyota has ~20% ownership of Subaru.

I'm glad to see more 4 door hatchbacks / crossovers, especially hybrids coming along.

The US has been sedan, SUV and truck crazy for too many years.

i just read that in sports mode it boostes voltage to 650v, compared to 500v in normal mode... what exactly does that mean?

    anyone?

With Prius, all they mention is upgraded electric system to 650v max... but not that it is changed via power button.

Why would anybody want to buy a car that uses premium gasoline? It's a mystery that Lexi don't run on regular gas. Shame on Toyota.

I just hope they have at least the leg room of the Prius in the back seat, and not like the kiddie seat in the IS!

I think that means more power to MG2. More torque will come alive in sports mode.

I like hatches and this will be on the top of my list when out. And at a base price of $27,000. I think these will sell quite well for being Lexus quality.

If i was in the market for a new car when it comes out, i probably would buy one. Hatches awesome. I looked at the prius IV, liked the car, but concluded that $27K for that interior just doesn't cut it. For $27K (plus a few more coins) for Lexus quality, I can live with that.

The HS 250h uses regular grade gas, and since the CT 200h uses the same engine as the Prius I'm sure it will, too.

I'm thinking the same thing. I think Toyota would lose a lot of potential buyers if it ran on premium instead of regular. With gas prices the way they are [and headed], I think Toyota knows that a lot of potential buyers would be turned away by a premium fuel requirement.

I kind of doubt rear seat legroom of a Prius. Look at the length of the rear door - very short. Then again, rear seat legroom is a matter of how much you slide the front seats forward anyway. If front occupants are shorter no prob, if taller, then things get uncomfy.

Looks like black leather seats might be the main offering in this car.

Don't seating get awfully hot with black leather seats in the Summer (need to run A/C more)?

In Lexus' overview, they are hinting this car will be a corner carver due to double wishbone rear suspension. We'll see if Lexus can pull that off.

'10 Matrix XRS has double wishbone, but pretty much every reviewer says don't buy one before test driving a Mazda 3 hatch, XRS not all that. I drove a 2009 Matrix XRS on a long backroad and was not impressed. It was secure, but not very engaging.

So, will Lexus figure it out and build this car to handle and be fun to drive like a Honda Accord 2 door for example?
