Anyone Notice MPG's Increasing

62.1 and rising on the current tank. Minimal EBH usage due to
simple lameness. No sheep pictures. Grill blocks still in
place but it'll probably be time to open the bottom one soon.

Yes. Actually I was stunned by the difference. The best I could ever do on my simple 6 mile return trip from work during cold weather was upper 40's low 50's. Today I hit 62.2! Woo-hooo! I'm certain I could have done if there had been less traffic.

Today I worked a little late and was able to drive home hypermiling. I'm proud to report I got a whopping 74.9 mpg! Bet I could have even done better but someone got behind me on the last leg and I had to drive "normal".

 

It is a sure sign of spring. With the DC area's snowy winter (coupled with air loss in a tire), I was averaging the low 40's from Dec to Feb. Filled up 1 week ago, and am now averaging 53 (according the the computer). What is happening is the cold are keeps the engine from staying warm enough....In the winter the traction Battery stayed fully charged....now it is dropping again.

 

Ithink I am noticing an MPG improvement here in Arkansas due to warm weather. Can't quantify it yet, because of other variables concerning my driving. It's definitely smaller than some folks are experiencing--nowhere near the approx 10 mpgs that dhs and PriusCrazy are reporting

 

2nd fill-up today. Actual mileage 39.6 (HSI 42.0) compared to 36.6 (HSI 38.6) for the first tank. warm weather the last 5-7 days. ODO 720 miles. Will drive the third tank on ECO mode. Hopefully, I touch 50s. Also, now that the engine is broken-in, will go on a long drive (~500 miles round trip) soon, and check the mileage.

 

Back up to 58+ indicated.

 

I own a G3, IV, 8800 miles.

In late January, we departed frigid N. Utah in an RV for warm Arizona for 6 weeks. My G3 was left at home with 75 miles on a nearly full tank of gas. The HSI showed 39.4mpg. I had a neighbor drive it once mid vacation to charge the battery. Upon my return, the HSI indicated 38.2mpg.

I have not added fuel, but one week later, my HSI displays 51.7mpg. My feeling is this past week I have achieved a very favorable efficiency by overcoming the tremendous deficit (38.2mph) and averaging now 51.7 mpg. Today I will fill the tank and start anew. But there is no question in my mind that Winter takes a tremendous toll on the fuel efficiency. I notice the ICE shuts down now that it is milder before we get out of the subdivision, and is much less prone to start when driving with the flow. It never runs when sitting at a traffic light.

 

Finally I hit 50mpg (4.7L/100km) on the HSI!!!! It will probably work out to about 46mpg but I'm so looking forward to summer.

 

Here in Utah it has warmed considerably ... but still long sleeve weather. My mileage has improved significantly from the mid 40's (mid-Winter) to the low 50's. Needless to say, I am delighted.

Today I had the ECU updated .... and nitrogen put into the tires. The car seems to roll slightly easier .... but I do not know if that is due to the ECU upgrade or the nitrogen ( or, possibly because the tire air pressure was low following Winter).

At any rate ... for whatever reason .... I am witnessing a startling increase in my fuel efficiency, even today. I am now indicating over 58 mpg .... which means the actual is around 55 - 56 (or better) mpg.

I am curious ..... Has anyone noticed the following:

I have owned my G3 for 8 going on 9 months. Last Summer, the difference between calculated vs. indicated (HSI display) was 1.5 to 2.0 every tank full. During the Winter, the difference grew to 3.4 to 3.8 mpg. Now that it has warmed, the difference is approaching the 1.5 - 2.0 again. I am suspicious that Toyota programmed the computer to ... 1) read a little optomistic, and 2) when the mileage falls normally during the Winter, to "fudge" slightly to make the efficiency "appear" better (for all those who rely solely on the display and do not calculate). Or, in other words, to indicate a more "level" mileage efficiency Winter and Summer, where in reality, the mileage drops in the Winter.

Any comment?

 

i haven't changed anything since I bought the car, but the weather has been substantially warmer the past few weeks which has brought up the mpg a bit.

 

I noticed leaving the Ball and Chain at home brings my mileage up quite a bit. Not having to stop at every yard sale, thrift shop and strip mall makes a big difference in fuel as well as wallet economy

 

and the car is lighter.

 

You could always ask her to get out and push. That should help your mileage, especially on the uphill parts. :madgrin:

 

Sitting pretty comfortably at 57.5mpg displayed. I'm kind of excited to see if I can break 60 once the temperature is consistently over 40 degrees in the morning.

 

Would you achieve the best mileage with her pushing up the hill and then getting in at the apex and riding downhill? The extra weight should help with the regeneration, right?

 

That would help, but the best FE happens when the car is parked. :madgrin:
