    Re: Brake Noise

My brakes make a metalic sound when stopping as well, at under 3000 miles. It happens only at the end of a stop.

It sounds like the sound of other cars when the 'squeeler' goes off to remind you to replace your brake pads. I'll check out the DVD.

I posted that the Toyota dealership lubricated some shims and did some other work and it seemed to do the trick. Well, it did the trick because the noise does not appear under 32 degree weather. It was in the 20's for a while and the noise appeared to go away. It started to heat up this last week and the noise came back, louder and even more annoying than when I brought it in there. I could hear the squeak for a mile down the road.

I took it in today for another fix and just got a call back from the tech and he said that Toyota has acknowledged there is a problem, but they don't know how to fix it. I am on some sort of list with customers with similar problems. Once the service bulletin has been posted, I would get a call to replace/fix the offending brake parts. So good to hear that they know it exists, but I have to drive in this ear piercing squealer until they can fix it.

Keep your eyes peeled for a TSB. That will be your solution if yours is as bad as mine.

We have had the exact same problem with ours, right rear wheel squeek while under 10 mphs, started a few hundred miles after purchase. I will share this post with my dealership to make sure they know what to look for.:)

Jeez-o-flip! Sounds like the techs really muffed-up your ride! Sorry dude.

P.S. I have taken in my 2010 IV 3 times in the last 9 months and the dealer never hears a thing. Still, most mornings it's like fingernails scraping on a chalk board. I really hate this POS Toyota!

I don't know if anyone has been able to get their squeak fixed, but mine has gotten rather annoying since I last posted. Toyota still has no fix and I am getting rather upset at hearing the sounds all day in the car regardless of the amount of warm up time.

Called my dealer to ask for some fix that Toyota has not authorized. Maybe replace the brakes or something on that bad side? Its not both sides, so one side has the solution that the other does not. Anyway, just more of a vent than anything. Being tired of hearing my car squeel since November. I've heard Chevy's making this noise, but common, those are chevy's back in the 90's.

I love my Prius (and Toyota for that matter), but its rather annoying I am getting no love from Toyota.

I took my Prius this past weekend into the dealer to have the ABS control update and asked them to check the squeaky brakes. After having the car for pretty much the whole day on Saturday, they said there is no noise issue.
And of course for the last two days since I've gotten it back from the dealer, it seems to be squeaking even more loudly. I'll just continue to be oblivious and turn up the music even louder...

I had the squeak for the first time today--3300 miles. Backed the car out of the garage to the street--ICE on. Pulled over in front of next door neighbor's to chat through the passenger window--ICE off. Heard the sound when I started up the hill to stop sign--window still open, but it went away fairly quickly. ICE stayed off for the next 3 blocks to the main road--if was going 12 mph or under to keep it off.

Yeah, that mileage sounds about right when my brakes started squeaking, and at first, it was fairly inaudible and went away quickly. Now, it sounds like the brakes are hitting the sensors and last for about 30 seconds (if I'm lucky). I'm not saying the same will happen to you, and I surely hope it doesn't.... I've logged roughly 6500 miles, about 3500 with the noise. So, I guess I'm used to it by now.

I have had the "squeak" from mile one (which was mile 76 on the car) and have driven almost 11,000 miles now. Still squeaks. It got REALLY loud, embarrassingly loud for a couple days during the first month and then quieted way down, but is still there.

We have had the squeak also--from about day one.
The dealer checked, found nother wrong. says it is rust on rotors.
Will watch to see if they engineer a fix.
Other cars I've owned have done it, but only when left sitting for a week or so, not overnight.
I think it's rusty rotors, but perhaps the iron/steel in these particular rotors is more suseptible to rust than that in other cars?
Whatever it is, I hope they develop a fix. It is annoying.

    FYI:
    http://priuschat.com/forums/gen-iii...m/79014-rear-brake-squeak-t-sb-0098-10-a.html

I am getting this done today. The parts were ordered. Hopefully my squeak will be a thing of the past as both rear wheels have this problem.

Funny how I had to email my advisor this TSB before he even told me about it. I've been having weekly conversations with him about this problem and thanks to another forum member who posted this, I can get it fixed. The rate at which they give out information with all the other back log of problems, if someone does not post something like this, i would be it would take a while for Toyota to even tell you (if they would even tell you) that this exists until you call.

Any chance this is also recalled in Australia?

My 2007 Prius had the same problem, it took 2 weeks to "fix". They said that the rotors were machined improperly. The changed the brake pads and machined the rotors and the noise went away, but was back 1 month later. It is more of a creaky noise that sounded like an old rocking chair - rocking.

Traded it in for the 2010 Prius last Sunday and I currently have 300 miles on it and the brake squeeking started today. I am so disappoionted...just really sad

Hey guys. Do ya leave your car out all night? or are they garaged?
I know that on the Cape mine gets the rotors rusty overnight when I leave it out of the garage. It squeeks for the first couple of brakings and then it is good the rest of the day.

I too get the same sqeeling noise and when I called Toyota Customer Service they told me that they have to talk to Service Manager where I took my brand new Prius and the Svc Manager said that the noise was caused by regenerative technology and is normal for Prius. How can that be possible? I get headaches from the noise and have to take Tylenol every time I drive for over an hour without loud stereo!!
