Audio Upgrade Help Needed

You will retain all your factory functionality by keeping the factory HU.

I did several months of research, going to high end car audio stores and talking with very well know installers. I also contacted several car audio manufactures. I wanted to keep the factory HU but after all the research it was not the smart thing to do, so I replaced everything with aftermarket. The HU is the most important component of the system, a good quality HU will make the system really come alive. My Eclipse HU has XM, Bluetooth, HD radio and a ton of other features + 5 volt pre-output which is very good. The factory has approx 1 volt. You will lose the radio steering wheel controls but you can install ASWC steering wheel control interface from Metra http://www.metraonline.com/catalogs/aswcbro-10.pdf. I did not install ASWC, I am using the HU remote which works out well.
If you have the factory NAV unit, then there are processors that you can use but the sound quality will not be as good as replacing the HU but will still be better than not doing anything at all. Going from the factory JBL system to my new complete aftermarket system made a amazing difference in sound quality.

Tks for the great advice....maybe I should sell the system off Ebay. Can't wait to install the system on and Jelous of what u guys have, hopefully the kicker amp will give me what I expect.

I'm looking to do the same to my Prius. Did you change out the front and rear speakers? Also, where did you end up putting the tweeters?
