HELP ME !!!!!! 2006 prius radio head unit upgrade

DAMM for weeks maybe months i have been doing a lot of searching and research to upgrade my radio. Stupid me i was following the 2005 wiring harness adapters so i dont have to cut the wires on the back of the stock radio. i went to a site that was mentioned a few times ./.. best kits .... i think i found the 2 adapters i will need to do this please if anyone has any input id appreciate it ... the two parts i found are BHA8113 and BHO8113 i was planning on doing this along with throwing in my amp and woofers. i have the instruactions to remove the dash and im doing the stealth install .. so i just need to make sure im not missing anything so i dont mangle the wiring on the back of the stocked unit. i want to just unplug the clips in the back of the stock and clip in im assuming the 2 adapters which will give me the other end free to connect to the wiring on the back of the new radio!!!!!! am i right?

yeah.. you can add an amp.. but you need a little unit that turns the speaks high feed into a low line for the amp. they only cost 15 to 20 dollars or so.

I went with Kenwood Excelon DNX6960 to power the Infiinity speakers. I am so satisfy with the sound quality from the Excelon internal amp that I won't be hooking up an external amp. I did install BOSS BASS600 low profile subwoofer under the passenger seat.

Check out the thread and the guide (PDF) attached. It has all the parts I used. I hope that will save you a lot of hassle.

ok ive been brain storming .... the wire adapters i saw on best kits dot com ... would plug into the wiring harnes that goes INTO the back of the of the radio ... so i wouldnt NEED the mini computer thingy from the car audio place because there is one there already ... so mu original plan should still work ... correct? one end goes into the clip i removed from the back of the stock radio and the free wires at the end connect to the new radio and im good .... hmmmm i guess we will find out

the part BHA1761 usbseawolf listed ... is for ""Toyota 1987-Up - Aftermarket Radio - For NON Amplified or JBL Premium Sound Systems"" ... but im leaving my stock stereo in place and if i tap into the harness that plugs into the back of the radio ... wont it still be pushing audio through the powered system already installed? wow back in the day when i did my suzuki samuari it was SOOOO much easier lol any ideas? and yes im all over Crutchfield: LCD TV, Car Stereo, Home Theater, Speakers, Plasma TV and i also see that ""PAC Toyota Factory Integration Adapter"" but they knock off like 50% if you buy a radio and i see a bunch of nice radios!!!!

If you are doing stealth install, you can just follow F8L's thread. The smaller harness at your finger tip, need to stay in the OEM radio for the A/C to work.

so even though his install is a 2005 prius (i think) and mine is 2006 its the same? do i need to install that resistor? what about the little computer module my local car audio place told me i need so did crutchfield.com ... so the one connection staying in the stock radio for the AC to work ... the other is there an adapter that has the other end wires free to attach to the new deck???? i was just about to order Kenwood KDC-MP345U CD receiver at Crutchfield.com
and the PAC toyota factory integration adapter ??? im freaking out here

The resistor is needed if you don't have that harness plugged in the stock radio. Stock radio ends the CAN bus which is exactly what the resistor does.

I believe the 20 pin harness is needed to be plugged in to keep the A/C working. See the document I created when I did the install.

Didn't know what I was missing until we got the 2010 Pkg4 with Nav. Drove the 2010 for a week and had to have bluetooth and aux radio in the '05, so bought a Kenwood DNX 994 1 din. Installed per USBSEAWOLF's excellent directions, except used the Metra dash kit for the 1 din install. Everything works great, PAC SWI is not that hard to program and love having integrated BT and aux, but the Metra dash kit is suck a$$ ugly. Put the OEM radio back in today and moved the Kenwood into the stealth install location. Not 100% happy with it, but 95%'s good enough.
Anyone want a Metra dask kit for a Gen II, come get it.

    s3nfo ...

ok you did the stealth install .... with a kenwood ... on the back of the stock radio is 2 clips plugging into the radio .... what if any clips did you get to install the after market radio or did you now use any? did you wire the after market radio straight into the wires? this is where i was and am confused ... when i went to crutchfield.com .. they sell a PAC TATO kit to install an after market radio ... did you use anything like this? i know back in the day ... id just take out the stock radio and splice the wires and do my after market radio and bam done ... but now cars have computers and amps .... i dont want to screw it up !!!!!

Bought a wiring harness from one of the local audio shops (Fry's). Unplugged the block from the OEM Radio, plugged it into the harnes, plugged the other end of the harness into the Kenwood. Used wire clips that came with the PAC SWI to hook it into the proper wires for steering wheel control and just stuck the resistor into the harness between the two pinouts as called out in USBSEA's excellent directions to keep climate control working on the MFD.
