Is it just me or does every town now have Priuses as the most common car. I swear in a 5 mile commute 3 of which are in the country, I probably see 5-10 Priuses. Am I just a proud parent?

Maybe it is those Portland Prius' I see........

You have one, so you see them more frequently. It happened to me too.

Yes, LA is the Prius capital....every 3rd car is a Prius, or at least it seems that way.

I live in the SF bay area (peninsula), which is supposed to be the Prius capital of the world, and while there are a fair amount of them on the road, you see a lot more BMWs and Mercedes on the road.

According to this website: www.hybridcars.com it is actually Portland, Oregon that is the Prius capital. Measured in Prius per capita, Portland puts LA and SF and Seattle-Tacoma to shame.

Pickles Gap, Arkansas is not the capital of anything. Even Arkansas pickles. (That would be Atkins, Ark.)
I don't know of any other Prii in Pickles Gap, but there are some (and a dealership) in nearby Conway.
On the highways, I still see many more Gen II's than Gen III's.

We have five of them in our area. It doesn't sound like many, but then there are only 600 people in the village.

The hybridcars.com data are for metropolitan areas rather than towns. Here in Davis, CA, the bicycle capital of the US (Fifty Years of Bicycle Policy in Davis, California - TRB Transportation Research Information Services), there are way more than the 8.8 Prius / 1000 households in Portland. I had to purchase a white Prius because there are already three red Priuses on my street (20 households)!

Hmm, I can think of about 6 Prius I've seen regularly (i.e., locals) around where I live.

I usually see about a dozen on my commute into Olympia/Tumwater.

We need more around here :D

Oh the amount of Prius smug-alerts has got to be peaking in the San Francisco Bay Area. I was driving highway 24 in Oakland toward the Caldicot tunnel yesterday, and there was 7 of us bunched together pretty much. Majority around here seem to be the Prius II's.... And I see very few III's with Solar, like mine. Of course, it makes sense, as we have the highest gasoline prices in the US.

Hey, microman, I am all for everyone claiming their town and/or metro area as the capitol of Prius. We can all find a stat that works for our community. Tacoma is certainly the Prius capitol of cities over 200,000 in the the Northwest that are not Seattle or Portland.

But, if we perhaps want to use something that may have some statistical validity if challenged, the Prius per capita figure seems a bit more fair.

That has Prius written all over it.

Nope. We are unique. We have mostly pick-up trucks. With a Toyota plant nearby, we do, however, see many Tundras, Sequoias and Siennas.

The real Prius capitol is probably some city in Japan. #1 selling Toyota car, and often #1 selling car period on a monthly basis. Competes with the Honda Fit for this title.

    Hi All,

Back around 2006 when I got my car, my town was probably the 1 st Generation Prius capital. I think that was because it was internet orderable. Lots of net savy people here. The 2nd generation Prius was only sold by dealers who had them, and that was by allocation from Toyota. So, it was a 6 month wait typically. SO, nobody bought them here. The car went from Internet orderable to, a 6 mo dealar experience. No wonder. I was the only one I saw driving a 2 nd gen back then around here, and I bought mine from a dealer 400 miles away.

Back then the Honda Civic Hybrid was the most common hybrid around here.

Now, there are lots of 2nd generation Prius, and about 1/3 of the Prius I see are 2010's. I would have to say the 2010 has been very popular.
