Dogs, seat cover and steering wheel cover

    Just wondering if anybody found a good solution for transporting dogs in the third generation, probably a similar solution to the second generation. I want to be able to partition the dogs so they are not able to go into the front compartment on a regular bases or in an accident. I'm definitely looking at some sort of bar that's probably anchors from the floor all the way to the roof. The dogs I will be carrying, are two medium-size German shepherds. Maybe I'm going to have to custom build something, which relies more on support from the bottom and then anchoring it somewhere against the rear of the car. I'm going to have to develop some unique solution.

    I am also wondering if anybody tried the GT covers. I am talking about their seat covers that are advertised to be specifically designed for the 2010 Prius. I want something that will preserve the original seat and I can just eventually throw it away.

    Anybody found a good leather steering wheel cover. I love the OEM version which unfortunately only comes with the top-of-the-line model. I want something that I can use to give the same effect. I want something with a good feel and also make the steering wheel slightly flatter.

    I purchased the Endura "charcoal" back seat covers from GT. Our dog, Daisy, was slipping on the leather seats and uncomfortable in the back seat as a result. Additionally, the GT covers protect the leather seats against dirt, mud and rainy day trips to the park. The covers require patience and dexterity to install, taking 2 people about 1.5 hrs and the most difficult task was threading the straps under the seat bottom. We used a [FONT=Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif]Flexible Claw Grabber Pickup Tool[/FONT] to grab the straps and pull them through - worked great!

    A couple of observations on the seat covers: 1) Daisy doesn't slip on the seat anymore, and 2) claws and rough texture of her paw pads make very audible scratchy noises rubbing against the Endura fabric, 3) any mud bits are easily wiped/flicked away when dry.

    Overall, happy about the purchase but could do without the scratchy noise.

    We've been training our two dogs (mind you they're small Bichon-Shitzus) to ride in the hatch. So far it's working great. Just that one of them is pretty stubborn and has jumped into the back once.

    Usually the wife rides in the back to convince him to stay put. Hopefully soon they'll be used to it and she can go back to sitting in the passenger seat beside me :)

    We also found a cheap generic seat cover (looks like a horse blanket with strings to tie it down) at Walmart that worked well in our Yaris, and also seems to work in the Prius. It's ugly, but it keeps the dirt off the seats. We just take it off when the dogs aren't in the car, fold it up, and throw it under the floor in the hatch.

    No answer on the steering wheel cover :)
