My dealer (Foothills Auto Center in Burlington, WA) invited me to a new owners celebration last night. While there I asked about perhaps getting the backup beeper cut to one beep and the passenger seat belt turned off continuous beeping. The Service Manager said he is the one who does that, it only takes ten minutes or less and to bring the car by any time for him to do it. We did it this morning- no cost to me. That is the way it should be. They even gave me a free oil & filter change certificate just for attending the meeting last night! I think this is a good dealer.

I read in another thread that the cure for the hatch being open beeper was to activate (close) the latch in the hatch with anything from a finger to a screw driver. When finished with your hauling and you're ready to close the hatch, just depress the hatch's button like you would to open it normaly. That will release the latch and you can close it normally. I hope I made that a weee bit clearer than mud....

I will try the suggestion, using a screwdriver, flipping receiving latch to fool it into think that it has closed the hatch securely. I believe there are two positions on the mechanism as you can get an open hatch signal on the dash with the latch caught. Thanks for the idea.:)

According to the service manual, the 2010 Prius Nav system participates on the CAN bus, so it could easily have a screen like this as well. (Reverse beep even...)

    But it doesn't. *sigh*

Went to my Richmond dealer today. Shop forman hooked my Prius up to his computer and the continual beeping in reverse is a faint memory. One beep and its all done!!!
Ps also got rid of the seat belt beep on both seats!!! red light warning only:)
In and out in 20 minutes no charge!!!

Went in for Service #1 a couple of weeks ago. I mentioned how pissed I was that I did not recieve a Brake recall notice then casually mentioned that I would feel a lot better about my car if the reverse beeping was disabled....Car was returned, washed with no charge for disabling the beep on the bill!
Some times you have to know when to hold-em.

I put up with the beep for a couple of months until it drove me absolutely nuts. Dealer made the change. Only took a few minutes. Peace at last.

I just got tired of guests referring to my car as "the little dump truck".

LOL thats funny. I just hate it when I have guests in my Rattlus. I feel so ashamed with all the rattles.

As for the rear beep you just have to get the dealer to disable it for you for free.

LOL. I doubt the wood shim will work. There are way too many places causes rattles. I have put foam in nearly all the places I can think of. I will tackle more this weekend.

Would love to move to the US.

I am not a cabbie. hehe. I don't see the attaction of Florida, I prefer more South Cal already. Only English teens will find Florida more attractive.

I had the reverse beep disabled and I don't miss it one bit. The car still beeps once so I know.....Anyway, for those thinking about doing it, heres a tip: The dealer tried to charge me labor for the procedure and I calmly let him know I was a member of Priuschat. No joking, he backed down and said he'd do it free because "I know you guys all talk, and if you don't all get the same quality of service, it makes us look bad"

Took the Prius in today for the "Brake Recall" and asked if they could fixed the "Beep, Beep, Beep...

After three hours car was returned without the multiple beeps fixed. Service writer said the mechanic indicated they could not change it because it was a "safety" feature. I mentioned I had read on PriusChat many already had the beeps removed. Two service writers headed back to the work area to continue the conversation with the mechanic. Five minutes later they returned with: "Don't read the forums, they are POISON , with all kinds of misinformation." I insisted they disable the beeps to no avail.

Service writer is going to call me Monday morning after talking to the Service Manager. Can't wait for the phone call as I will be quoting from page 587 in the manual. :D

Side note: Service writer asked if I wanted the "5000 mile" change since we have 4800 miles on the car. I had to tell him Toyota changed the oil change to 10,000 miles.

And yet another fine example of a helpful and customer friendly service department. Unfortunately, you'll more than likely need to find a different dealership. One that doesn't mow you down with BS like this.

Update on the service writer and mechanic's reluctance to change the "beeping" back up signal...

They called Monday as promised and told me to please bring it back at my convenience, as "we would be happy to change the settings, Sorry for any inconvenience."

Looks like Like I will not have to change dealerships after-all... :D
