When it came time to purchase my Prius (back in Feb - I bought a 2010 Prius III no nav for $23.4 $1k below sticker)- b/c I live in Hamden, I looked at Wallingford and A1.

Wallingford was a bit closer in location, so I went with them. But afterward, I noticed that their 'free' oil-changes and battery (12v) required other service to be performed there (and I think A1 doesn't). I haven't had my car serviced yet (only about 2200 miles) - but I can just feel the potential conflict brewing...

Has anyone else had any experiences regarding how much they force you to adhere to mfg's schedule? (do I have to have them do 5k tire rotations to get my oil changed and/or 12v battery replaced)?

Read the manual - there are no real services through 100K - just tires every 5K (really could go 10K), and oil at 10K intervals. There's no minor/major service on the Prius...

Please read my question before writing a response to read the manual:

I'll repeat it in case it's unclear:

Has anyone else had any experiences regarding whether they (Wallingford Toyota) force you to adhere to mfg's schedule? (do I have to have them do 5k tire rotations to get my oil changed and/or 12v battery replaced for "free")?

    More directly:

Has anyone else who has bought from Wallingford Toyota (and received the "free" lifetime oil changes) had to purchase the Tire Rotations there in order to receive the free oil changes?

They can afford to give you "free" oil changes & a "free" battery only if you are overcharged for something else.

You should have asked this question at the dealership before you signed the contract. Instead of asking us, call them.

The guy asked if anyone here has had experiences with Wallingford Toyota, which seems like a reasonable question.

While I bought my second Prius there, I've yet to have any service done. That said, they were fantastic to deal with throughout the purchase process. I'm a fairly aggressive shopper and they really handled every aspect well, from initial call through to signing/delivery. I'd be pretty surprised if they jerked people around on this, given their local reputation. I got the distinct sense that competing with A1 and Hartford is why they're so focused on customer service.

Be interested in seeing how it goes.

    Hey Malarkey,

Thanks! An answer from someone in CT to a question about a specific dealer in CT. Whoda thunk? If someone in So. Ca or Jersey asked a question about a specific dealer in either Jersey or CA, I'd really have nothing to say - as I'd be completely absent any useful information about a specific dealer in either CA or Jersey. But I guess being completely absent any useful information isn't necessarily a threshold to responding...

Anyway, that aside, I found the purchase experience relatively painless, other than that mild feeling that I'd not necessarily negotiated the best I could, and that someone else, somewhere else got a better deal. Such is the process of car-buying, though.

I'm at about 2,500 miles now, so I'll probably be going in sometime around July. I noticed that their website wasn't specific about the oil change/battery deal, but that on a slip of paper that they provided (during the final paperwork) - it implied that they were contingent upon other service being performed there.

We'll see, I guess... hopefully, they realize the value of customer satisfaction and the long term benefits of being flexible...
