Have you heard of a third-party warranty on the Prius for $985, Popoff? That's, obviously, quite a bit lower than the $1,800 I was offered. I'm now increasingly skeptical of third party insurers anyway (it sounds like the real problem is that the "house" all too often loses, given the above stories of third party warranters going broke), but I would be interested in looking into a $985 warranty if only out of curiosity.

This morning when I turned on the car, the fuel gauge blinked empty again. When I put the car in reverse and began moving, it once again corrected itself. Seems harmless, but... has anyone had this problem? Has it led to anything worse?

I may have to get it checked out, but I'm interested in your experiences...

As a matter of fact, I have. Just navigate to the Forum page and look at the 3rd topic down to read all about it. It's the genuine Toyota 7 yr, 100,000 mile offered especially to Priuschat members. by a very obliging Toyota dealer. Many Priuschat members have purchased it and can vouch for its' authenticity.

Just to make popoff's point absolutely clear, it is not a third party warranty, it is the real McCoy from Toyota Financial Services.

Ah, the real McCoy. Unfortunately I've already tried the real McCoy (including the really excellent offer you're referencing from PriusChat.com), but as I mentioned in my first post Toyota won't let any of their dealers sell me any of the official Toyota extended warranties.
This is because (1) I'm the 3rd owner of my car, and the second didn't buy any extended coverage, (2) It's five 5 years old, though it less than 35k miles on it and (3) it's a hybrid. Several dealers told me they could sell me the Gold plan were my car not a hybrid, but Toyota exempted hybrids of a certain age for some reason.

So, unhappily, I'm stuck with the third-party guys, or with nothing.

    Oh well.
