6635 Initial Leaf Reservations

I suspect quite a few Tesla hopefuls are looking at the Leaf the same way you are. And if the S is going to come a year after the leaf, they can afford to buy a Leaf, drive it for a year, and then sell it when the S comes out.

I could see doing that, except that it would be a couple of years more by the time I could get an S, since I never got in that line. And, while I fully expect the S to be a fabulous car, I am not optimistic about its production date.

It will be interesting to see the response you get.

 

Well, I guess this should end the argument about who gets one first...here's the quote from Nissan on the Gas 2.0 website..."It’s a first-come, first-serve list based on geography." It could be the website 'sign-up' list or the 'reservation' list. So there will be no RUSH to a dealer.

 

Or the one who firms the order first.

The question is, which one of these ? first-come where ?

 

Exactly! First on the mailing list, or first to pay $99, or first to the dealer when they begin accepting firm orders???

 

oh it's pretty clear, the first 4700 in the 10 initial launch markets who have

1) signed up, and paid the $99 reservation fee
2) complete the deal and arrange financing/leasing at the end of June/early July
3) are in the 10 "test" citys and agree to be part of the DOE testing

as for the rest of us (the "other" %25 of the 6635 or so depositers), there is no clear plan as to when any one of us will get the Leaf, could be a long time...

 

Yes, but, as one of the 75%, I want to know whether I'm 100th or 4,700th. That makes a lot of difference - whether I get the car in December '10 or June '11.

 

If you are one of the initial roll out cities, and you are participating in the EV project/DOE study, I think up to 4700 of those cars will be delivered in those 10 citys starting in December, at least that's what they say... We don't know how many Nissan can deliver per month, but those will be getting delivered ahead of everyone else. I have heard Nissan can build 50,000 per year in Japan, 4,000 month, you won't be waiting long, depending on their ramp up time

 

As I said - since getting this in December vs getting later makes a big difference (in terms of tax, sales tax paid etc) - it is quite important for us to know where we are within those 4,700.

 

Actually, it is 1,000 cars for each of the five states in the initial rollout...the 4700 figure is how many people will be able to get a free home charging station (if they qualify on the EV Project's website).

you can pretty much assume if you where asked if you wanted a free home charger, and you agree to participate in the DOE study (part of the requirements for getting the free home charger), you will be among the lucky ones getting your Leafs in December

us poor schlubs out of the 10 launch city initial markets, will be lucky to see the leaf in Late 2011

 

I am not on the Leaf list although I wish it well. I'd stop by the local dealer when the Leaf is available in either the Philly metro or NY metro region. (Not sure where E. Windsor NJ fsalls). I'll bet I see a Leaf for sale before I see a Volt for sale.

 

From what I've read - Nissan's idea is to start selling in a state or two every month in 2011 - so that by the end of 2011 they have all the states covered. The rollout is much more aggressive than Volt's.

 

It is hard to believe that Tennessee is first in line for something Eco Friendly. We are usually way behind the west coast.. Welcome to Tennessee Nissan!

 

That is purely because Nissan factory (and HQ) is in TN since 1981. Leaf will be built there starting 2012.
