    Hi all,

Well - I've had my Prius for almost 4 months now. My first tank was 39 I think, then it kept creeping up until I kept seeing numbers of about 42.3 or so.

I was wondering if I'd EVER see a tank over 50mpg. Well - it happened!!!

Last Friday I took the day off to go up to Universal Studios (Hollywood) with the family. We took the Prius. Drove up 3 hours and (after a fun day at the studios) drove back 3 hours. Started with about 3/4 tank of gas, ended with about 1/4 tank of gas (YES! about 250 miles on only 1/2 tank!!!!) - The consumption computer showed an average mpg of 52.3 mpg!!!!

I was THRILLED! Also, although I've ALWAYS loved the navi-computer, I couldn't have been more pleased with it this trip. Unlike San Diego, Los Angeles has freeway interchanges on both the right AND left of the freeway - I was SO pleased with Triple-T telling me which side the ramp was on! Here I was in heavy traffic, and I KNEW what side of the freeway to get on because my CAR knew where we needed to go!!!

Ok - I've ALWAYS loved my Prius - but I have to tell you - one "road trip" will make you REALLY REALLY love the technology.

Triple-T is the BEST car I've ever owned! (Even over my old muscle Trans-Am!)

You can look forward to more of the same, friend! I just refueled for the tenth time, and here is my mileage for the last few tanks:

    Code:

    Date   Miles  MPG

    28/05  465    48.5

    13/06  513    50.9

    29/06  424    48.1

    18/07  546    54.1

    30/07  487    52.5
I love this car! I have a little notepad I keep in the compartment under the CD changer in which I track ODO miles, MFD-indicated MPG, MFD-indicated miles, amount of fuel added, and the price of fuel at each fill-up, which I enter into a spreadsheet to extrapolate actual MPG, fuel cost per mile, and the like.

Yeah, must be nice to like in California. In the middle of January I can count on sub-freezing conditions and 40MPG.

Congrats on your first 50! It is a milestone and you will see a day when you remember this and wonder what all the excitement was about.

    Haha!

I hope you're right! (That I'll reach a point where over 50 is just normal!)

Frankly, as I've said before - the car ALWAYS gets over 40. And being as my last car was a Trans-Am, I couldn't be more pleased with the mileage. But I almost got out of the car and jumped up and down for 10 minutes when I got that 52.3 on a 250 mile (or so) trip. I was THRILLED!

Also - the nav computer came in REAL handy on the trip back. The kids wanted to go to McDonalds to get some dinner - Normally on these trips, you watch the side of the highway and hope to see the restaurant you're looking for. NOT IN A PRIUS - I did the "I'm Hungry" voice command, and simply spotted the closest golden-arches on the little map and went there.

    GAWD I LOVE THIS CAR!

Congrats! I have been averaging around 47 with the AC on pretty much all the time but I mostly sit in traffic... My wife drove the car for two weeks and got 52mpg! What the hey! Then we left at the same time one day and I followed her until our path parted and man, she drives like an old lady! VERY slow and steady accelleration. I guess that's what it takes. Me, my foots either all the way down or all the way off :) (Another former and sson-to-be-again Trans-Am driver) The Prius is a great car, though!

I've got 15k miles on my Prius now, and never got over 48MPG... so far. I have had trips that got me over 60MPG, but never a tank that was over 48. My commute is about 35 miles each way. It's country roads for the most part and I can certainly tell since I got my Prius which way is more uphill. I've tried everything from tire pressure to feathering the peddle every chance I get. Sometimes my mpg will start out great (over 50) but there always seems to be some hill, or something that drains the battery (stopped at construction) that will cause my mpg to lower. Maybe I should give it a trip to vegas to see what it can do. I certainly do not see the higher mileage in city as advertised by EPA tho. Stop and go city driving gives me much less MPG and is usually the culprit for lowering my intial high numbers. My wife used the car for a few weeks when I was out of town. She does a lot of city driving, and her MPG was in the 30's! Even so.. I still love my Prius. Right now it's wrecked (see post: My 05 Prius Broadsided) So my experiments with MPG's are on hold until I get it back.
