    Hi-

It was recently re-set to DEFAULT settings accidentally

I did a re-set to these settings at aprx mid tank:
    9 gal, hybrid, 1.5 liter
    was working fine
now, after recent fillup and entering gallons purchased & price...the instant MPGs are reading about 35% higher than the Prius display- but its still al 9 gal tank, hybrid car & 1.5 liter!!@&#

Called Scanguage, and they said try to fill gas when it gets down to 1/2 tank, enter the gallons & price, and see if it comes back into accuracy

    Any ideas?

Strange that they didn't mention you needing to verify/set a calibration factor for your miles traveled.

Fix is simple first you need to do hard reset of the scan guage it self and then follow directions as if you just bought it.. will take a few tries maybe to get it to Register close to what the screen says

isn't the tank 12 gallons ? My scan gauge did the same thing, and I have filled and entered the corrected values a few times, but it is still way way off... My correction factors are like 275%

In general, gas refills and Scangauge resets or fuel purchase data entry must be at the same time, for the same distance. If the Scangauge gets reset mid-tank, then the gauge and tank are out of sync, so don't enter the next purchase amount. Simply tell it that you refilled and accept its estimate, without correction. Then on the refill after that, starting entering actual fuel purchases again.

Likewise, if you refill and forget to enter it into the Scangauge, the next refill must not be entered straight up. Either accept its estimate without correction, or total your new refill with the missed refill(s).

If ScanGuage's guess is not somewhat close to the number you are entering, then suspect that something wrong, and think carefully about whether or not give it corrected figures.

it seemed to be fine for the 1st few weeks, when set to 9 gals - but NOT entering anything when i filled up. Seemed to really match the prius display. It was only when i wanted to try having it track the fuel i put in that it went off. And no, after 6 calls to them, they never once mentioned entering "calibration factors" !! (5 calls to the very helpful girl who answers, and once to a young sounding tech.....
(i bought the car used, and it came with the SGII- but no manual - maybe i should download one?)
Briefly- though- what is the scoop on "calibration factor"- does it pertain to the bladder-tank? (last time the final fuel guage "pip" segment began to flash, it took 8.4 gals to fill....the time before that when the pip began to flash, it only took 7.7 gals. It was a little warmer outside the time it took more. I'll have to keep a notice of the trends on that...)

I guess if i re-set it again, and just dont enter fuel/cost data- it may go back to reading out the MPG data accurately again- and frankly im fine with that. Because of the variations in the bladder style tank, it seems the most accurate fuel-used method is to re-set the Prius trip-odometer...and note the gallons it took to stop the gas nozzle when it "clicks" - but if the bladder-tank is in the mood...or temp?, etc, to "accept" more gas that day, how do you really know what your fuel usage WAS on that tank????? Is there a Prius "tank consumption" tracking feature that I havent found yet, that takes the bladder-variations into account, and is more accurate than the SG??
