    Me too. Ditto.
I know I am in Reverse, I put the shifter there!
It is the folks outside the vehicle that may nor HEAR the motor and realize I am backing up. Besides the camera really helps me when it is not washed out by the sun.

    Somebody help!?;)

I asked my dealer to do it before I took delivery of the car. It took them no time at all, and now it only beeps one time when I first put it in reverse.

I did the same when I took delivery a month ago. I don't mind the single beep, works well. I was actually there when the tech hooked up the computer changed the beep and I had him remove the unlock doors when you shift into Park and one other thing .. took all of ten minutes.

It is covered in the owners manual (that the beep can be reduced to a single beep). Dealers are able to do this change. Mine did it without a charge.

I think Toyota put the continuous beeping on to remind us that they put the gear selector on back to front.
Push it forwards to go backwards and pull it backwards to go forwards, not really logical is it.

If you have a scan-gauge and follow Tumbleweeds' directions it's easy.

Greetings - just got my 2010 Prius with Technology package. Beeping was driving me nuts. Dealer service person was adamant in saying that it's impossible to program to a single beep and that it is a safety feature that can't be disabled.

My service advisor walked me to the service bays where I ended up showing the technician a printout of this priuschat thread as well as a copy of the relevent manual pages. That threw a completely different light on the situation. In five minutes they were able to find the proper setting on the computer and set it to a single beep. No charge as it was a request I had made on purchasing the vehicle.

    Technician commented: well . . . we learned something new . . .

I'm very happy. Thanks to all on this forum. - learning a great deal from all of you.

Perhaps the "technicians" should read Priuschat.

I was told by my service tech it was "against the law" to change the rev beep to one chime and to delete the seat belt beep...aaaaaahahahaha...good one fellas!

I just showed them the user manual where it says what chimes are programmable to your preference and they were convinced enough to do it for me yesterday. Afterwards they thanked me for bringing it to their attention because they had never done it before (aka "the real reason they didn't want to do it").

FYI - If you act like you know what you're talking about...people will follow your lead! Even better...if you make them think it was their idea...they will do it even quicker!

I have rear parking sensors, and you can barely hear their low volume beeping sound over the deafening YOU ARE BACKING UP beep crap.

Ridiculous. I have an apointment to change that next week, it better be free since it makes the parking sensors useless.

I am having mine reduced to the one beep tomorrow at a Toyota dealer. This is my second attempt. The first time the technician forgot to shut the door so when the car was put in reverse it made a continuous (not intermittent) beep.

I find the beep especially annoying with a back up camera. I want to look at the camera image without distractions.

Dealer also changed my "reverse beep pattern" as they call it to single beep. Free.

That is funny, many of your have asked dealer to change the "reverse beep pattern" but when I asked my dealership (Antwerpen Toyota at Clarksville MD) they said they have never heard about it ;(
They told me that I have to call Toyota customer support to find out. Just wondering did anyone ever call customer support? Or the dealership is BS.

It is the dealer customizable options list. Somewhere around 592 in the owner manual. It takes the dealer all of 45 seconds to change. My dealer in McKinney Texas changed to a single beep at no charge..

It took a grand total of 5 minutes at the local dealership to get rid of that "feature", no charge.

I was told that it was against the law to turn off the seatbelt chimes and reverse beeping.

I responded as matter of factly as she did that it was not illegal and then I just started at her.

She didnt say anything, so I continued to say that these items were listed in the owners manual as owner preferences and were able to be changed.

She stated that there would be a charge for these changes and I told her that Toyota Customer service stated that these changes were to be done at no cost to the customer.

So, in the end, I had the reverse beep and BOTH seat belt chimes turned off at no cost.

I hate to hear that others are being told such BS, please call Toyota customer service and let them know what you are being told.

Why would they want you to call to see if it could be done, shouldnt they be the ones doing that?

I am sure a memo went out at some point about this issue:D

I got my reverse beep turned off at my local dealer for free and I didn't even buy it from them.
