Had my first brake assist moment. The other night I was driving home on a dark country road when a huge dear jumped in the road and stopped right in front of me. I was going about 60mph and slammed on the brakes. I was very impressed how responsive the brake assist was and Literally stopped within a foot or two of this dear who didnt know what to do. Quite positive without the brake assist I would have hit it. Thank you toyota.

This goes back a long time -- the 70's I think -- but at least back then, if you hit & killed a deer in NY State, you got to keep it if you wanted. Wouldn't have believed it, but knew someone who had just that situation.

In most states if you kill the deer, you can't have it. But the next person who finds the roadkill, can have it...

The meat usually isn't that great once the deer has been tenderized with a car.

Im refering to when you jerk your foot off the gas and slam on the brake, the brake will be "loaded". The car senses your going to slam on the brakes so it doesnt take as much force to start locking them up.

Brake Assist is a program/feature that senses that the driver is making an emergency stop (it senses how quickly you lift off the accelerator). When the brakes are applied, the computer will assist by adding more brake pressure to give maximum braking power. The idea behind it is that most people don't fully apply their brakes in an emergency (either because their legs aren't strong enough, they're not seated properly so even with the leg fully extended, the pedal isn't fully depressed or they're just scared of pressing the brake pedal too hard).
