who is averaging 50 MPG true?

I got the new Prius two days ago.
I am just getting low to mid 40s Maybe I am not used to drive it yet my other car is 5 speeds RSX.

 

I am averaging just under 55 MPG calculated for my first 1000 miles. I hope to improve upon this as I break the car in and learn better Prius driving techniques.

 

With 500 miles on the car I get 50-52 mpg on my trips but my wife gets low-mid 40s (according to the car at least). Leads me to believe that driving style, not the car itself or break-in, is what's causing folks to get lower mileage.

 

Yep. When Godzilla's baby sister drives the car, the mileage goes right down the drain. I now know why I don't let her drive.

 

I usually get over 50 mpg. I barely notice any effect of running the air conditioner on hot summer days, but I saw a definite drop in gas mileage during winter. Cold weather, where the ICE runs just to maintain engine/cabin temp really took a toll. Rain soaked roads also cause a noticeable drop, but with our rainfall of around 12 inches per year, that's not usually a problem.

My current tank is looking like it might be my first 60+mpg tank. My high for a tank is 58.9 mpg last summer. My low is 45.9 mpg during a bout of snowy, below zero weather last December. Almost all my driving is my commute. The garage at home is warm, but I park outside at work, so the drive home starts with a very cold car in the winter.

 

For my last 1000 miles I averaged 57.2. Most of the travel is from my 40 mile roundtrip commute thru rolling, non-interstate roads in Atlanta. It'd be a few mpg higher but short trips to pick up kids or go to the store brings it down a bit. My best on a commute day is 69mpg but that was with ideal lights, traffic, etc.

 

I'm averaging 52.2mpg over 12,600 miles, actual mileage. The car's computer estimate is about 5% over, at 55 mpg. My mileage went down over the winter, as expected, but has been coming back up the last month. I have a type III with a solar roof, but while traveling this past weekend I rented a type II and may have gotten better mileage. Highest estimate I've ever gotten from my car's computer was 58.9 over 530 miles. But with the type II rental I got 60.6 over 400 miles. Definitely comparing apples and oranges since that was on the east coast and I live in CA, and the terrain was gentle rolling hills and in CA I drive mostly flat terrain. But does make me wonder about MPG of solar roof package versus no solar roof. Anyway, one thing for sure is that the solar ventilation works very well. Getting into the rental car after it was parked in a lot for just an hour and it was very very hot in the car. I guess I've been taking the solar ventilation for granted.

 

W\e just rolled over 10000 miles and our computer average was 54.7 mpg. We have owned our V for 11 months and are very happy with the mpg. It (computer) averages about 3mpg higher than calculated actual mpg. Even taking that in to consideration our average is over 51 mpg for the past 11 months.

3100 miles on 2010 Prius II bought early March. Computer is reading 51.5 mpg since new, so a little under 50 actual but it is rising rapidly with the warmer weather. I like the car so much we just bought a second. I just crossed 100 miles in it tonight.

 

First tank: 48,9 MPG according to the cars measurements. Real calculations follow after second refill.

 

Exactly 1 year of driving, which is the minimum sampling you need to cancel out any seasonal effects, is complete for me now.

20,219 miles has resulted in a calculated average of 50.1 MPG.

That's a true 50.

Now with the warmer temps, it is easier for me to get higher mpg at highway speeds. Broke a personal best record on the 2010 prius today.

my wife get 47 to 52,, i cant get down to the 40's.. two recent long trips,, 55 and 54 sometimes 85 mph with traffic.

 

After watching Bob's video and applying the techniques I averaged 54.4 mpg yesterday on the way back from office from Brooklyn to Iselin, New Jersey with air-conditioner ON all the while.

Today morning on I averaged 58.2 mpg on the way from home to office.

I bought the car just 2 weeks back from RT 22 toyota in New Jersey and cannot believe myself getting such splendid MPG's.

Well, I live in Wisconsin and the temps do dip to below zero in the winter. We had a relatively mild winter; no -20 or colder. I use my trip "B" to measure the tank and trip "A" for total mileage. As things worm up I'm again getting over 65 mpg on the display and about 2.1 mpg less when calclated. My overall mpg since last July when I bought my Gen III is 53.2 on display and I'm assuming that due to consistant MFD being consistantly 2.1 mpg generous that I'm getting 51.1 at this point since mile one (10750 total miles approx.). Also, I don't hypermile but I try to be as gentle as possible and watch as many stop lights ahead as possible in order to avoid dead stops. I'm quite pleased.

I do. Check my sig. 50km (32mi) one way trip to work takes about an hour. Varying speeds and terrain, and I'm not even using any hypermile techniques. I'd get run over if i did.

I'll average 50-52 in warmer weather (like right now) if I mix in some highway driving. Short trips with lots of cold starts around 45-46. Subtract 5 mpg in the winter. I keep tire pressures about 38/36.

 

My wife just got her 2010 package V and she's only getting about 42-44 mpg. I have a 2005 and I'm averaging about 50 mpg now, last winter I was getting about 47 mpg. I did a major service on the car about 4 months ago and it did improve the gas mileage by 2-3 mpg.
