apparently so. now i need to clarify that the car probably rolled maybe 4 or 5 inches or so. with the wheels turned all the way, the angle of the car changed enough that there was no doubt that it rolled

Sorry, maybe i reported prematurely. When I get a copy of the report I will post it so those who know more can interpret it.

I certainly want to know exactly what happened and how it will be fixed before/if I drive the car again.

Absolutely, the parking mode in the transmission is designed to be used in concert with the parking brake.

Although, since it's well known that many people don't use it, they should also be designed to work without using the brake. Maybe not as well, but it should be designed to hold the car and not hop out. A good design has to cover common misuse especially anything safety critical.

They are designed to work without the brake to a certain extent. I would say maybe 15% of drivers in America use the parking brake properly...how often do you hear about a car bouncing out of park and rolling away? Pretty infrequently.

I was planning on having the car driven directly to Toyota for them to buy the car from me.

I have been driving manual transmission cars for over 30 years. I stump on the emergency brake. How do you propose that the car got out of DRIVE if the "P" wasn't engaged? Pushing a button and changing the gears are extremely different actions. I have been driving this same Prius everyday for three years. I pushed the "P" button, stomped on the emergency brake, took the key with me...

ya, not around here. it happens about once a month here. but we do have some pretty steep slopes which is not the problem because people "from" here know better. but we have a lot of immigrants here. i have to estimate that only about ¼ of the people here are from here. the rest came from flat lands far away. but they only have to not set the brake once and they learn.

there are a few hills that u will roll backwards while in drive if you dont have firm pressure on the brake pedal

With a history like this would anyone individual or car dealer buy this car from me?

But you didn't shut the car off. Thats against the law and the manual for the Prius SPECIFICALLY states never to leave the vehicle running when unnattended, every car manual says that. The thing beeps and throws up a red excalamation point when you get out with it still running and take the key.

You're going to be SOL with Toyota.

If I were you I would plan on something else.

Sure. Take it to a Toyota dealer or to Carmax and they'll buy it from you. The car rolled away and got hit...once the damage is repaired its like any other car with previous bodywork.

A better BB tool would allow post deletion. And if I had a better brain (or a worse one) there would be no second thoughts :_>
