First time posting over here, so hello to all and congratulations on a professional alternative. I am copying a post I made to the 2004 Prius group to PriusChat and will try to support and keep up with as many of the various groups as I can.

I have received MANY requests for integrated XM, video inputs for the screen to be used for backup cameras, DVD and aftermarket Navigation systems, and audio inputs for aftermarket units.
    I hear, I hear : )
On the previous Prius it took me a year before I got the message and put out the Viewtech systems so either I'm getting quicker or maybe my hearing is improving. Anyway, at this moment I am going to make it a complete package with everything together (XM, video in, audio in, option for Nav) so I don't have to specialize everything to run by itself. It will work for all of the 2004 Prius, regardless of the model package you purchased or settled for as many have accepted cars without Nav or other features just to be able to drive one of the new ones home and not wait for an extended period (first Prius I waited for 5 months and it had no option for Nav or cruise control so I know the feeling). I will make myself available for installs as soon as I have it completed and will strive for a kit which you can do yourself if you wish. We have created many kits over the last few years which perform complicated functions yet made them easy to install for our customers so give me a little bit of time to perform the documentation and create the installation manuals necessary for the do it yourself part.
I will complete the assembly of a system for all of the above features over the holiday and get some pictures and applications demonstrated. Then I intend to sleep for a week and drink heavily (just kidding)

Enjoy the New Year, be Happy, and above all be Safe.

I got the XM reciever installed and it works great. I also installed the backup camera and have it showing on the display as well. I have some more components arriving soon and then I will complete the auxiliary audio input and the DVD. I will post as I progress. The XM unit is a factory Toyota unit. I do not know of any Toyota Sirius receivers which are available at this time but I will keep looking and if I discover one I will let you know. Attached are a couple of photos of the XM and camera in operation.

    Hi Dave,

Is the backup camera based on the video input you developed for the 2003 Prius or is it using the camera input already available on the 2004 Prius?

The '04 system is based on the camera input. That's why it displays the safety message on the screen which is just fine with me. It is a nice reminder for people to watch what they are doing.
I did get the XM receivers on the Coastal site and have been accepting orders for those all afternoon. I think a lot of people will move up to XM once they get a chance to experience it. These factory units are a little pricey but it sure does work nice and sounds great.

    Dave's in Florida.

He provides EXCELLENT instructions with everything he sells (in some cases, VHS or Video-CD based instructions when visuals are needed).

I'll be saving up for the XM kit, but know I'll be ordering other products like the hitch soon.

    Hi Dave,
Does the new kit include the rear camera? If not what would the aditional cost be?

Prius cubby hole below radio and aux input?

Has anyone figured out what the dimensions of the cubby hole below the radio are? Will a standard DIN sized radio fit in there? I'm hoping that storage box in there can be removed. I'd like to add a Sirius head-unit there and plug in into Coastal Tech's upcoming AUX-IN. Dave, where do you plan on locating your AUX in? Also where does the XM tuner mount?

    mp3 and on screen graphics

Got the Audio Aux in connected and operational and tested with a player. View is an MP3 player connected with visual on screen folder and song selection.

Re: mp3 and on screen graphics

What kind of player did you connect it with? I'm guessing the inputs are two different wires - one for audio (like you'd connect to the headphones) and one for the data associated with it and to control the player.

Where do you put the player? In the little cubby below the stereo? Where do the wires come out for the connection? Can they be located in the cubby so there's a clean appearance when you're not using it?

I'm very curious and eager to see if this would suit my needs. Also, if I'm not keen on installing it myself - can you recommend someone in the Southern California area who might have some experience?

    re: XM Audio & Video

    Dave,

Very very interested in this kit you're working on. I live in the Washington DC area, plan on ordering my Prius in a week or two. At the very least, I'll be ordering the XM kit from you, but I'm also interested in perhaps the whole package deal, depending on cost (I *need* XM, but could, if necessary, live without a rear camera and aux inputs) :) I just wanted to thank you for creating something that there is an obvious market for, and I look forward to hearing the latest news! Keep up the excellent work!

Hi Dave. I have heard many, many good things about your products, and your service. If I understood your post, are you implying that you will not sell a system for Auxiliary input (eg mp3 player, or computer) alone, but that it must be integrated with the XM system? Just wanted to mention that I'm not personally interested in XM (or paying for it) but would like auxiliary input into the sound/video systems. I noticed a number of posts over on Yahoo group that expressed a similar sentiment. Unless there is some large technical obstacle, I hope you can be persuaded to make a non-XM kit available too.

    Aux In Only

    Coastal Dave -

As for myself, I am only interested in an Aux In for my iPod. After you posted on the Yahoo site,a number of people chimed in similarly. I'm not interested in XM. Will you have an Auxiliary In Only product for us?

    Thanks.

    Re: Aux In Only

Yes, that's where I'm at too!

I'd like the AUX in - but I don't think I want to go for the whole XM thingy.

    Thanks!

    DVD successfully integrated

Thank you for your suggestions. We will continue development on different options and will work toward kits for the audio aux in, with and without XM, video in and camera interfaces. The work will continue at an accelerated pace for these options and we will make them available as soon as possible. Attached is a photo of the DVD interface operating on the Prius screen. This completes the initial work for XM, camera, mp3 with on screen graphics, audio aux in, DVD and TV interfacing with the Prius systems in the 2004.

    Player installed in dash

Many have questioned us about the feasibiltiy of installations of DIN sized units in the lower storage compartment below the radio. The space has proven to be ideal with little difficulty. We completed the installation of the DVD/CD/MP3 player in dash with complimentary circuitry. The unit provides front inputs for additional video and audio inputs.

Dave, that's awesome! Is that unit wired through the XM cable as well? How sweet to have the entire integrated XM, an in-dash DVD/CD/MP3 PLUS aux. inputs....you're amazing man.

Let us know the model number of the DVD you used if you can, and as soon as you've got the rest of the package ready I'm sure you'll let us know....looks like I'll be saving my pennies!
