Fog Light Kit / Daytime Running Lights (DRL) Combo

    Hello everyone,

    Tons of great threads on Fog Light kits...and on Daytime Running Lights and mods. Many of the DRLs appear to use turn signal lights which are yellow and likely not as impactful as needed. Really surprised to learn that the headlights do not turn themselves on/off and no daytime running lights (both of which I presumed since my old Camry had both...figured it was all standard by now).

    Think it is possible to install one of the Fog Light kits and use the DRL module to operate?

    Net result:
    - DRL fog lights running anytime the car is on
    - Light sensor turns off the DRL when it turns on the headlights.
    - Manual control to override so you can turn on fog lights at night as needed.

    Thoughts?

    I installed the fog light kit sold here. It's a excellent buy and the quality is better than any of the others available (I have tried three).

    For daytime running lights I use the fogs. I leave the switch in the parking light position at all times. When the car is turned off and the drivers door is opened all the lights turn off without delay.

    Works for me!

    The headlight switch on the turn signal stock is set to "parking lights" and the fog light switch is set to "on".

    The only time that anything is changed is at night when normal headlights are needed. I don't drive at night very often.

    I’m doing same thing, do you use normal halogen bulbs in fog lights or something low current bulbs or leds?

    I did try those leds and now I am making my own bulbs with big problems with heat transfer... :confused:

    I am presently using the halogen bulbs that came with the kit. Would love to convert to LED if I can find some that put out similar candlepower and fit without modification.

    Currently keeping the parking lights always on; parking lights seem to be very small and I'm not sure how effective or if it even matters?

    To keep the parking lights always on, I need to adjust the dashboard light control to full-on (so you can see the dash in the day). Problem here is then you need to adjust the dash control at night so the dash will appropriately dim.

    Will explore once I embark on the fog-light project. Hope to set the fogs up w/halogens whereby they run automatically during the day (no impact to the dash lighting). Headlights go on by themselves via light sensor, and the fog lights will go off automatically. When needed, you can turn the fog lights on at night (w/headlights on).

    This idea isn't too crazy, right? Everything seems logical and doable? How complicated would this be to install/connect?

    I just purchased a 2011 Prius II mostly for my wife...she is so use to the day running lights...she never used the light switch. Now she is forgetting to turn the headlights on. Statistics says that DRLs are about 30% safer. I jumped on the internet and I found a kit that will do wonders for the DRL problem. It is:
