Just wanted to confirm that UK 2010 Prius with HDD SatNav can take a DVD-R/W with MP3 files on it.

We haven't bothered ripping any music to the HDD, as taking a whole heap of music to the car on a DVD is much easier.

I've not tried it, but I've been assured that it does read MP3s on DVDs OK. There's a chap on the UK Prius group who's loaded about 24 hours worth of MP3s on a disc and it plays them OK.

Yes DVD's with MP3 deffo works.

However only the Artist title is read from the mp3 metadata. So - put each LP or collection into it's own folder. You can then browse and pick a folder to play. Rename the file names to be the song titles. If you want the LP to play in album order you'll have to start with the track number - e.g. "01 - Rio.mp3".

The random function in this mode is awful - it selects each track randomly all right - with no knowledge of what has previously played. So the same track can be selected again and again every few tracks. Very annoying.

But - you can at least encode into 320K and you can use a program like Tag & Rename to get your MP3's tagged and renamed appropriately.

After some experimenting with discs, it seems there is a limit of 255 tracks that the Prius will see. So you can have more than that on a disc, but you will only see the first 255.
Not sure quite how it decides which tracks are the chosen 255, but I suspect it related to the order they are written to the disc as opposed to an alphabetical sort.

I assume that you guys are talking about playing DVD mp3 on the CD changer not the SatNav. DVD slot right?

    Thanks

On the UK models the SatNav is on a HDD, and not on a DVD. We don't have a changer, just a single slot loader that takes either CD or DVD discs for audio.

    Ah - Hi everyone,

Just got my new Prius and am finding my way around the Nav/Audio system. The post above answered exactly the question I was going to ask!! I burnt a DVD full of stuff and then wondered why half of the tracks weren't showing up!

It's not an ideal way to for the audio system to behave (my old Skoda was great with the way you could literally copy MP3s over to the HDD and keep the folder structures) but it's a small price to pay :)

    Thanks
