WADR, I cannot think of one reason to have an OEM pedal bottom cut so that I can go from 2" to 2 5/8" clearance from the floormat.

It appears the mod will make it less likely for careless owner's to get stuck pedal with non-fitting floor mat.

My '06 is over 4 years old (pkg.6). My original mats have not moved in all this time. I intend to op-out of the peddle mods.

I've seen this in person on a few cars...and IMHO this is a ridiculous thing to do to a $25,000 automobile. A company's response to an issue with a component used in their product should never involve a saw, sandpaper, and a sharpie. My car will stay exactly how it is.

    Update:
Pedal replacement was denied @ Pauly Toyota in Crystal Lake, IL when service was done, after multiple requests.

Hello A Gray Prius, you have the right to ask to speak with the factory representative of your area and request a new pedal, or call the 1-800 toyota customer satisfaction line and speak with them. Polite persistance is my best advice. If you definitely want a new pedal, you do not even need to give an explanation beyond " I feel safer with a new pedal" and you should be given one.

Be polite, but do not give up. You can try other dealers or continue by contacting Toyota directly. They will give in because bad publicity is the worst thing right now. Any bad story can snowball at this point and Toyota will not take that chance. The individual dealerships may not agree, but Toyota will.

Bear and Gray Prius....here's the update on my pedal modification. I did call the Toyota Customer Experience Center and kept moving up the food chain insisting that there was no reason to first modify it and then to then replace the pedal for a new one. That was the recall procedure they said. Well, two weeks ago I was notified that the new pedal was being ordered for me. My service advisor called Friday afternoon to say the pedal was in and I was to schedule the replacement. I will insist that I receive back the original pedal.

Gray........be persistent, but polite. Toyoyta does not want the bad publicity, as Bear said.

I will report back after the replacement is finished.

That's the ticket Nascr! Bear in mind however, warranty parts MUST be retained by the dealership and in many cases are requested by Toyota for inspection. Replacement pedals WILL be called back by Toyota. The only way you can keep the old pedal is to pay for the new pedal AND the labor yourself. That moves the repair from "Warranty" to "Customer Pay" giving you the right to keep the old parts.

If you pay for the repair, the parts, new and old, belong to you. If Toyota pays for the repair, the old parts belong Toyota. Sorry, but those are the rules established by Toyota and all dealerships MUST follow them or they will NOT be paid for the job.

Thanks for the input. I let them do the modification even though it seemed like a waste of time/effort if they could have simply ordered a new pedal. I'll keep working on it.

I now have an image of a box out back at all the dealerships...In this box are dozens of the bottom half inch of go pedals that have been removed, awaiting inspection by the guy from hq.:D

Anyone have a photo of the new pedal? I'd like to see whether it is worth the trouble to get one (or whether it has a cheap and nasty appearance, like the new, ultrathin "all-weather" mats).

You all need to get a life!
    It's only a gas pedal.
How many people do you think would notice the difference if the modification was done while the car was in the shop for other work?
I don't think it would be very many.

Well, today I was in for the 32 Mm service and asked if they were going to trim the pedal... well it seems that in Canada anyway, they'll do it if you really want whenever you want, but they aren't even going so far as recommending it.

Joe....go back and look at the "modified" pedal pictures that Bear posted about a month ago. I definitely would notice that if that were done to my car. Maybe I happen to be AR about "Eleanor" but it's not something you would overlook in my opinion.

    Personal comment.........I have a life!!

Had mine done on Monday. All they did was cut off a little of the pedal. No exchanging floor mats or taking out insulation. I had my Hybrid Camry done a couple of months ago. They changed the floor mats, changed the insulation and cut off the pedal

Each model of car will receive different modifications depending on what Toyota determines necessary. Some get new pads under the carpet, some get ECU reflashes, some get pedals cut, some get shims added to the pedal. There is quite an extensive list.

Any chance we can get that list posted? Just out of curiosity. No biggie if you can't do it. Thanks :)

update on the replacement of my pedal.......I just had it done. It looks wonderful and just slightly shorter than the original one. It took about an hour for it to be replaced along with fluid checks, etc., and a car wash.

There is no noticeable difference in the way it feels under my foot.

I am totally happy with the replacement and with my dealership. Love my car!!!
