I considering switching from my Motorola 551 to the new Sony-Ericsson, anyone have any luck with this model, or a similar model?

My last T616 didn't work so good, but I've read some of your accounts of it working well so any news on the S710?

Does it ring through the Prius?

It seems to be a switchoff with the Moto vs. Sony, Moto Rings through Prius but Sony can upload entire phonebook and entries easily...

Any input on the Sony-Ericsson S710 is beyond appreciated :)
Thanks

I have an SE S710a and it works fine. BUT... The first instrument I got had really bad sound through the car. The volume of callers was really low and they said they couldn't hear me well. My wife's Moto V551 sounded great. I sent the phone back and got a new one and it works fine. Apparently the Bluetooth in the first one was faulty.

I've been able to transfer phonebooks, but only the first number is used, and the car passes through the phone ring sound.[/font:a517294b67]

I may be interested in your Motorola 551. Thinking of getting Cingular's prepaid plan.

Is it a branded 551?

I'm assuming you're asking me this question, DanMan. Yes, both my SE S710a and my wife's M V551 are Cingular branded. I got a family plan to share minutes.

I don't recall what option package you have on your Prius. If you don't have Bluetooth, Motorola makes a neat hands-free kit. You plug it into the 12V outlet; it has a microphone you can mount and a speaker in the plugged in part, and a specialized cable plugs into your phone. It also charges the phone when it's plugged in. Motorola is also working on a similar BT hands-free kit, but it wouldn't charge your phone.[/font:062d5ba883]

Actually it was directed to MaCreative, as he his upgrading.

I have 04 package 9, which includes NAV. I am considering Cingular for prepaid, as a lady friend also has cingular, so it won't cost anything to talk to her as I drive over.

The question becomes 25 cents a minute without a daily connect fee, or 10 cents a minute and $1 a day for each day I use the phone. I have a pager, so I can receive calls that way.

Otherwise, T-Mobile has a better deal: 1000 minutes for $100 good for a year.

Are you sure that the prepaid cellular service includes free mobile to mobile calls? It does not seem right. Read the fine print before you make a commitment based on that assumption.

The dollar a day specifically states it does, but the 25 cents a minute does not. However the general prepaid info says it does.

Could you tell me the process you used to do this? I just recently got the S710a and haven't quite figured that part out.
I've got the phone paired up and it works for making/receiving calls.
TIA,
Brian

I recently bought a s710a. I was able to get it to link up with the prius, and it worked fine for a couple days. Now I can not get it to connect at all. When I bring the phone in the car the bluetooth icon on the phone displays the two little arrows as if it's connected, but when I try to make a call through the car it says something like "check phone".
So I tried removing the phone registration from the car altogether, and removing the car registration from the phone, basically starting from scratch. Now when I try to reregister the phone the phone will recognize the car, but the car just stays on the screen where it's displaying the passcode, and never recognizes and registers the phone. I was wondering if you all had any suggestions.
I'm thinking maybe I got a faulty phone as well. I'm hoping it's not something wrong with the bluetooth in the car. I would have tried to return the phone by now, but I bought it online so it will be a bit of a pain in the nice person.

Funny how when i first for my prius, my s710a worked great, i didn't upload the phonebook but making and receiving calls were fine. Then suddenly, over the past weekend, it won't connect anymore. . . i'm totally lost as to why .. . it connected fine one day and when i started my car the next time, it says connection failed. i dun have any other BT phone to try so there's no way to tell if its my phone or my car. . . anyone else have any insight as to why or how i can fix this?
