I just purchased a Treo 650 from Cingular and attempted the Bluetooth connection with my 2005 Prius. After reading these forums, I decieded to install the carkit software patch. I found and installed the 1.15 rom update which claims to include the carkit patch. The rom update was a real hassle to install.

I am able to make a connection to the Prius. The trick (that I saw on this site) was to make a call from the Treo while the Prius is sending its Bluetooth signal.

I then have to go to the Prius phone settings and select a phone. Once the phone is selected, the Bluetooth connection is established.

If I make a call immediately, the call will go through. If I wait more than 10 seconds, the Bluetooth connetion is dropped. I then have to select the phone again to re-establish the connection and immediately make a call. Once the call is finished, the Bluetooth connection is again dropped.

I found and attempted to install the carket patch (which is still available seperately from the rom update). I loaded the carkit patch on the Trio, but it would not execute. A message was displayed saying the program was not compatible with the device.

    Any suggestions?

    Thanks,

    Nate

    Quick update,

A soft reset on the Treo 650 fixed the problem. My Cingular Treo 650 and 2005 Prius are now communicating normally.

With the latest Palm update for my Sprint Treo (1.12, which supersedes the Palm car kit update), the Treo pairs with the Prius without having to make a call from the Treo during the process, and all features seem to work, including signal strength.

"Has anybody, however, been able to pair Prius with Treo 650 from Verizon? I am debating whether to buy a Verizon Treo 650 or a Samsung i730."

I can use my Treo 650 with Verizon. It works minimally. Poor clearness in sound causes me to keep conversations short. The address book won't transfer, and no indicator bars on the Prius screen.

I would not purchase the phone for use in the Prius.

Tom, I've got a Sprint Treo 650 with 1.12 and am considering the purchase of a Prius. I'm trying to decide on BT. Do both the incoming and outgoing calls transfer quickly between the 650 and the Prius?

Our Sprint T650s work well with our Prius. There is a slight delay while an incoming call gets picked up by the car kit but it hasn't been a problem for us. Outgoing calls are not a problem at all. We were able to transfer a modification of our normal phone book (only one number per name). If it were possible to use the phonebook while driving it would be better but with the one-touch buttons and the ability to initiate a call from the phone, it is very workable.

My Verizon Treo 650 works just fine. Sound is good. I can adjust volume with the steering wheel controls, and I have no trouble transferring numbers from the phone book--as long as I go one number at a time.

Would you let us know how you got your Verizon Treo 650 to pair with the Prius. Mine says it pairs but the Prius is not recognizing it. I downloaded the latest patch 1.04 and it still is not working. My Prius is 2 days old and I am disappointed that the Treo 650 will not connect. Any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks,

    Jack

You have to make one change to the set-up instructions. Before the car will recognize the phone, you have to place a call on the phone. In other words, after entering the passkey, dial a number on your Treo. BTW, I didn't discover this on my own: I got that tip from the good people here at PriusChat.

My Cingular Treo 650 (Hardware A, Software Treo650-1.15-CNG, Firmware 01.31) will pair with my 04 Prius, but only stays connected for 10 seconds. If I am quick, I can make a call within those 10 seconds and use the handsfree. Otherwise, it's a lost cause until I either restart the car, or select the phone from the Prius MFD.

Received calls do not go through to the Prius.

I have noticed similar behavior when using the Treo with my Motorola HS850 headset. The phone only stays connected to the headset for 20 seconds.

For those with a successful pairing of Cingular Treo 650 to Prius, does the BT icon on the Treo indicate a continuing connection after ten seconds?

I too have simply resorted to keeping my BT headset in the car, but the whole thing strikes me as a tremendous waste of technology. Sometimes I go back to my Motorola RAZR phone. At least it worked consistently with the Prius (though its compromise is you cannot transfer the entire phone book).

My thought is that someone at Cingular or Palm programmed the BT implementation on this phone to go into some kind of power save mode after 10 or 20 seconds. This drops the connection. Cingular and Palm have been of no help on this. Emails are answered with automated responses, and each company essentially blames the other.

The best BT phone I've had in my Prius was a SE T610. It just worked. Imagine that.

Just bought a new '05 BC (Package 6?) Prius today.

My wife and I have SprintPCS Treo 650s (latest firmware).

Had quite a bit of trouble pairing mine but eventually got most of the kinks worked out.

Here is a possibly useful tip and a question:

    1. When transferring phonebook, I was getting names but no phone numbers for quite a while until I determined it was the punctuation that was causing the Prius to not recognize the phone numbers (It would display "Name ||||||||||||". In my Treo, I had to change all the numbers to remove the formatting. e.g. (603) 555-1212 became 6035551212.

    2. Can the Treo not reconnect with the Prius if the Prius is started while the Treo screen is off? The only times it successfully reconnected were when I had hit the power button on the Treo to turn the screen on *before* I turned on the Prius.

This thread has been VERY useful! I did just as the folks here suggested and made a call on my Treo 650 before entering my passkey on the Treo and --voila!-- the Prius saw my Treo. Works fine now.

It is amazing how little documentation Palm, Verizon or Toyota give us for these new technologies.

Hello, I just got a Treo 650 from Verizon. CANNOT get the TREO 650 to work with my Prius. The problem is as you described it above...exactly. I checked the PalmOne website as well. I have the Treo updater 1.0.4 required in my Treo already. Can you give me some tips on how to make it work?

    Thanks,

    Jerry
