Remarks: New record tank (distance and mpg) for this car. Average speed is higher than normal (39 vs 34km/h) because I did a few trips to the airport (110km/h or 70mph limit). I also experimented with SHM.

    6/14/10 / 384.5 miles / indicated 49.5 / calculated / 47.632

    6/20/10 / 289.5 / 51.8 / / 49.554

    6/27/10 / 346.1 / 55.1 / / 53.131

    6/28/10 / 286.9 / 58.3 / / 56.823

For some reason the average for the last four tanks is under 2 MPG discrepancy. It use to run around 3 MPG.

The last tank with 286.9 miles, when my wife and ,took a trip from Seaside Oregon to Cabelas in Lacy Washington. Via Hwy 30 from Seaside to Interstate Hwy 5 to Lacy Washington.

Temps were in the low to high 60's on average. Speeds were from 55 to 70 mph with at least 40 miles, maybe more, on cruise at 71 MPH indicated, probably 70 MPH true, on Highway 5 were the legal speed limit, in some areas is 70 MPH, for passenger cars.

I was really suprised at 56.8 MPG, that was round trip so everything is equal. Also only 1.5 mpg off the computer.

Impressed, considering we were only getting in the mid to high 40's MPG(calculated) a few months ago.

Yeah if I really pushed it. Wasn't that confident haha.

Yeah the cars are getting better mileage as they break in even past the 1,600km traditional break-in period. My road trip this summer (slightly different route though) netted 4.2L/100km compared to 4.5L/100km last time. Also the portion of the trip that covered the same route as last year netted very similar mileage despite the fact I was driving a tad faster this year.

My tank on the 28th of June was going to be my best yet, but the 4 of us packed into the car for a trip to Santa Cruz (over the mountain), my displayed MPG dropped from 64.0 mpg to 62.0 mpg by the time we finished the trip. The best is yet to come!

My June FE was 58.6 mpg or 4.0L/100K calculated. My best overall month so far since purchase in Feb 2010. This included daily work commutes in DC area of 11 miles or 28.5 miles oneway trips to carpool lot (shorter trip) or worksite (longer trip). Shorter trips on weekends running local errands. Also, one longer, mostly highway trip to the lake (~200 miles) driving between 55 to 70 mph much of the way. So, it represented a wide variety of driving conditions overall. I used many driving techniques for FE but also maintain speed to keep up with traffic.

My car is a 2010 Prius III with the sunroof. The car's trip computer usually estimates about 2 or 3 MPG higher, roughly in line with typical reports here. I haven't used the heater and rarely used the air conditioner (mostly just to see if it works). Stock 15" tires (Goodyear, model I don't remember). The tire pressure is whatever the dealer or Toyota set it to. (Frankly I haven't even looked at it yet.) Fuel is 87 octane, probably containing some ethanol though I'm not certain, bought almost entirely from either Costco or Arco.

    06/07/2010 8.418 gals 411.7 miles 48.9 mpg
    06/23/2010 8.040 gals 377.7 miles 48.6mpg

The above miles represent different experimenting with different terrain on a 840 miles trip plus local driving.
06/05/2010 miles are on I-20 with cruise control and A/C, then heavy driving in the DFW area before continuing on US75 north. Temps were in the 90s.
06/07/2010 miles represent travel from US 75 to I-20 East on US69 with variable speeds, lots of construction, hilly terrain, then I-20 at north of Tyler to Shreveport and back to DFW.
06/23/2010 miles are DFW area back to Central Texas on US 377, lots of hills, strong cross winds and then back to Brownwood where the last half tank is short trips around town.
My computer display on the car is showing an average of 50.5mpg

Remarks: Ran on the blinking pip for 142km (89mi). Had one cold day (daytime highs in the mid 50s) otherwise mostly low 70s for highs and it was raining on Thurs. This was the tank that started with the SHM test... the end result is a far cry from that nice 78mpg run.

WOO HOO finally broke through the 50 plus mpg . Same brand fuel and same pump real math calculation. Mix of highway and city 51.2 and just my third tank of gas. My prius and the chat group has taught me well. That was with the air on as we have been in a heat wave for a few weeks. Tires 42 front 40 rear. I can't wait till she is broken in.

Boy, this is so gas and cruise control specific. Filled up with some cheap gas and it went down to 46MPG at 70MPH/cruise/air on and with the cruise off it was 51MPG. I always get 56-59 MPG with the cruise off.
