As I wait for delivery of my car in the next few days, I have a few questions that I hope someone can help me with: 7/8/2010 I now have the car. Love it. Red are answers to my own questions

The plastic wheel covers (rings) are a bit scuffed. I was told that some people remove this and drive with the uncovered alloys. Anyone have pictures of this? It this a mechanical or aesthetic decision? Aesthetic. I like the look better without.

Daytime running lights ..... Do we really not have these? I think that I read this but find it hard to believe. I guess it is possible to minimize battery draw. No DRL's. I leave lights on during day.

I know that I can use the bluetooth speaker phone to have hands-free conversations (completed successfully during test drive) but that I can not download my phone book. If this is true, can I manually add a dozen or more names and numbers into the JBL system so that I don't need to touch my phone to make calls? Yes, I can add manually and it works very nicely. No reason to change phone to use in Prius.

What package is the NR Package on a Touring considered? 6? It has:
(from this site) Smart Key System (SKS), Backup Camera, Vehicle Stability Control (VSC), Anti-Theft System, Electrochromatic Auto-Dimming Mirror, Homelink, JBL Audio AM/FM/6-CD/MP3/WMA w/ 9 speakers and Satellite Radio Capability, Auxiliary Input Jack, Bluetooth Handsfree, Voice-Activated DVD-Based GPS Navigation System, Leather-Trimmed Interior w/ Leather-Wrapped Steering Wheel. Sure is Package 6. I finally found it called this in a 2008 brochure.

Floormats: For winter, Is there a better choice than WeatherTech?
For the rest of the year, do you suggest factory mats? I will probably go with weathertech plus one for trunk area

Is there a way to know if the TSB's and recall items have been handled? I'm guessing that I have to go to a dealer for that. None show up as being done on toyota website. I will go to a Toyota dealership. Can I get this done at a Lexus store? I like them better.

There is a sensor on passenger side sitting on IP up against windshield. Is that temp? external light sensor? an antenna? (car does have satellite radio? Any idea? Sirius antennae.

Factory warranty: Remainder of 5/60 and 8/96. Do I need to transfer this? Is this done at the stealership or can it be done online? I will visit Toyota (or Lexus and get this done)

The car I bought is a light blue. What is its official name? Seaside Pearl.

I just had a good friend ask me where I will plug the car in when I'm at work. Then he called me a liberal tree hugger. I love my friends!

Thank you for your anticipated assistance!

Wheel trim rings are aesthetics; any increase in drag is surely trivial. IMHO it looks better without them. Note that there should be an actual hub cap (a couple inches wide, bearing the Toyota logo) in place in any case (it covers the hub nut to help keep it clean).

    Russ,

I will try to address your Touring questions as follows:

-There are many pics in PC that show the alloy hubs w/o the plastic hub covers. Use the search function to locate. However, the pic above shows it fairly clearly. It's just a matter of owner taste and preference.

-I don't believe your 2008 Gen II Touring has automatic running lights like many GMC cars. With the Touring model, you have fog lights that may be turned on manually. However, the 2008 Owner's manual does have paragraphs on Daytime Running Lights (with the qualifier "If equipped"). It may be that running lights are mandatory for cars sold outside the U.S. (Canada?) I believe the Gen III models have running lights with the option to turn them off, but am not 100% sure of this.

-I believe from your description of the car options, you have Package 6 on the 2008 Touring Model you purchased. That's the same Package trim both my wife and I have on our 2008 Tourings.

-I have the factory all-weather rubber Prius floor mats in both of our cars and like them very much. I leave them in year round. The drivers side mats are anchored down with the clip and fit perfectly. I would recommend going with the Toyota Prius mats.

-The Dealer should know if the recall items have been addressed on your car or not. I believe all they do on the 2008's is trim the gas pedal to shorten it, and remove your current mats and install a smaller, flatter, anchored mat instead.

-I believe the sensor you are referring to is a light sensor that detects the level of ambient light.

-As long as the car is within the specified Toyota time and distance warrenty limits, it is still under warrenty. If it has an extended warrenty, I will defer to someone with that policy to elaborate.

-I believe your light blue Prius color is officially called "Seaside Pearl" by Toyota.

Hope this helps you, Enjoy your car. They are fun to drive and great on gas savings.

    Rich,
Thank you! Very helpful. I bought it from a Ford Store. The salesman was much less knowledgeable than I was. I'm excited to take delivery this coming week. I've been intrigued by the Prius for years and look forward to it being my daily driver.
    Thanks again!

If you don't have one buy a copy of the 2008 Owner's Manual. It's full of info you need to know. And if you don't have a copy of Toyota's Scheduled Maintenance Guide, see here:
