Awwwww..... Their not QUITE that expensive.... The original Techstream scan tool (Panasonic Toughbook laptop coupled with a SnapOn made backpack Vehicle Interface Module Initial cost $6500 and $1000 per yr for connections and updates) was in my plans until I found out about the yearly fee. Now, the TechStream Lite, (Mongoose interface cable + software $450) which includes updates (for Toyota Techs) is MUCH easier to handle.... Especially since my dealership owner decided to buy one for each of the Master Diagnostic Techs as a reward for passing the 2010 MDT test.....

to the OP.... If I were closer to you, I would have been happy to meet up and try to help you out... Unfortunately, 3000 miles is a little outside of my travel range.....
I am glad you got things solved though...:)

Thanks Bear :) I'm glad it worked out too, and thankfully I'm a high school teacher so I didn't need a car to get to work this time of year. As for the window/fuse hypothesis, I'm also curious for some input from the pros on this board.

Well, next time I get some sort of strange malfunction, I'll be sure to pull out each fuse and look for a black one

Dsleighton - did the dealer tell you where/which the 15A fuse is ? also, the window roll up/down problem has something to do with the aux battery, as my Haynes manual said to "calibrate" the window after disconnecting/reconnecting the aux battery.

    Patrick,

My brother recently purchased a salvaged 07 Prius, which was rear ended on the right. The body shop made the repair but there are two warning light: brake ((!)) and VSC. The car drives fine and brake just fine. We took the car in to the dealer for a general inspection but they want to charge extra to do a diagnost on the warning lights. We declined as the car is working fine. I've read that there is a black box by the aux battery with ultra capacitors as temporary charge to operate the braking system. I think this box was disconnected or replaced due to the rear end.

Do you think the warning light can be cleared with jumpering pin 4 & 13 on the DLC3 plug ? where is this DLC3 plug anyway ?

    thanks, Pb

The DLC3 port is aka the OBD-II connector. In all modern vehicles that comply with OBD-II standards, you can find this connector under the steering wheel column.

See my post #8 in this string for info on how to retrieve the skid control ECU DTC:
    http://priuschat.com/forums/gen-ii-...82381-traction-control-alarm-malfunction.html

After you've retrieved the DTC then you can try to clear the DTC to see if that helps: make the car IG-OFF, install the jumper, then make the car READY and depress the brake pedal 8x within a five-second period. Then remove the jumper and if the root cause is no longer present, the warning lights should go off.

Can you see the brake power supply which is located to the left of the 12V auxiliary battery? This is a very large rectangular black box.

I would not continue to drive the car with the brake control and VSC lights illuminated, if you are unsuccessful in clearing the skid control ECU DTC. Those warning lights are telling you that the braking system is impaired and will not work properly in the event of an emergency situation.

Thanks Patrick, I'll retrieve the code and update. It may take a few days as it's my brother's car. Yes, there is a brake power supply black rectangular box to the left of the aux battery.

We were concerned with the warning lights as well so we checked all the brakes and did some hard braking. Everything seems normal. I was hoping the dealer would clear the code when we took the car in for the inspection.

PBui - the window issue started before all this nonsense, but does seem to be related, as you read. Unfortunately, I could not get the car while service was open, and of course sales didn't have any additional information for me.

No luck retrieve the code, the lights just blink at regular non-stop interval, first both brake+VSC light; then just VSC.

Tried clearing code, with 8x step on brake after ready (engine running warming up cycle), but made no difference. Yes, there is a black rectangular box by the aux battery.

The liights sequence is repeatable: first the VSC comes on, then ((!)) when engine starts.
