Has anyone installed a 12 volt inverter in a Prius? Any suggestions on running the wires from the battery through the firewall?

    Regards,

I have used several cigarette lighter plug in models. They worked just fine. They have a fuse in the plug to avoid any voltage surges. Do you need to make a permanent install? The 12 volt battery for the 05 is in the rear.

Yeah, I was thinking that I would go to the front to the posts on the drivers side under the hood (at least I think thats what they were in the fuse box last time I looked). I wasn't sure if there was some sort of safety switch there to stop an electrical problem I might inadvertently cause. Its an 800 watt, Peak inverter that I picked up for $40 from Sam's club.

At this time I have no plans to remove it, I want to set up my laptop and a printer on the front passenger side for work. The kit came with clamps for the posts but I was thinking of cutting those off and putting circular terminal connectors on if I'm running it to the back.

I just don't want to (read: can't afford to) fry anything electronic in the car.

    Regards,
    Kevin

I frequently use a plug in model but someone on this site permanently installed one and did a beautiful job installing the 110 volt outlet on the front of the storage tray area, right next to the 12 volt outlet. I didn't bookmark the thread but a search should find it.
