I haven't gotten back to the forum in a few weeks, but just wanted to comment that I purchased a 7/75 warranty from Troy, as well as the prepaid maintanance plan. It was quick, painless, and certainly affordable. I would highly recommend him. It took a few weeks to come in the mail directly from Toyota. I called my local dealership to insure they would honor both products beforehand. Thanks for the excellent service.

Typically, do most dealerships honor the extended warranty purchased through PriusChat? Would a dealership be legally required to do so since the extended warranty is from Toyota?
Hypothetically, if I were to call the dealer where I bought my Prius and asked them, and they said "no", and I suspected it was to just discourage the use of it, how could I verify that dealer's actual policy?

Common sense tells me that as part of the franchise agreement a dealer is obligated to honor the extra care and maintenance plans underwritten by the distributor.

That's what I would think too, just wanted to know if there was an established, clear-cut policy.
I'm considering purchasing the 7/100,000 Platinum warranty. At time of purchase my dealer offered a lesser warranty, I think it was 5 or 6 years and 70K miles for about the same price as Platinum coverage offered here. I politely declined.

I just purchesed my Prius locally, and was told specifically by the dealer that the Extended warrenty was only available if I purchased it when I bought the car. So I did at a cost of $1660. After reading here it sounds like he was just blowing smoke tryign to make his buck. I guess I just want to ask if anyone knows of any reason this might be the truth? Thanks

svensknc: I was told the same thing by the dealer in Durham, NC - buy right now or never! That is not true. I am the proud owner of an extended warranty - genuine Toyota product - from Troy. Cancel your overpriced warranty and contact Troy as instructed on page one of this thread! You will be much richer and happier!

A local dealer sold me the 6 year/75,000 mi Platinum Service for about $2400.

I read on the PriusChat forum that you can buy this warranty with its exact terms from any dealer. I called a few local Toyota dealers and found the same plan at MSRP or less, around $1000-$1300.

When I requested cancellation and explained why, they offered to reduce the price to just over $1040. I also asked increased the coverage to a 7 year/75,000 mi plan.

    crazy!

    Hi All,
This is my first post, but I wanted to say that I just purchased the 7 yr/ 100k warranty from Troy. It took a little while for my copty to be mailed from Toyota, but Troy was great throughout the whole process. I would definitely recommend.

Troy is very professional, he got me the Extended Warranty Platinum for my Prius 2005 and my Sienna 2005 in no time. The complete procedure took less than 2 weeks. Toyota have sent me the Extended Warranty Contract. Thanks Troy I saved $1750 on both cars.

I just want to say that I was thrilled to close the deal today, and my local dealer offered me the 6 yr/75K plan for $999. He also stated that there is NO transfer fee, and that IF I reach the 6 year anniversary date of my purchase and have never filed a claim (a long shot for my trading experience, I admit), that the purchase price is indeed fully refundable.

I asked about the refund again, just to be sure, and that's definately what he said.

Long story short - I'm happy to support local dealers that compete with the prices I've seen here in the forums. And my new car sure looks cute in the garage.

Well I picked up my new Black Beauty today, and I didn't read this thread until after I brought my 2005 Prius home. I just purchased the extended warranty--Platinum--and I am going to pay $1995.00. The only easier pill to swallow, is that it is spread out over the years in my financing...but then I am probabley goint to pay interest on that also. I had an extenced warranty on the SUV I traded in, and I'm getting about $300. back on that one. Does the discounted warranty have that same Pro-rate rebate ability if you trade in your Prius before the time period expires?

They must by law prorate and refund if you cancel. You should consider canceling your $1995 warranty and get the discounted one from here. I believe if you do it within 30 days, it is a full refund.

I talked to Troy just yesterday, in connection with my buying the 100K.

The price has gone up $5 to $990. I imagine he'll post that.

Danny, the original version of the first message regarding the extended warranty (that is now in the area where postings are not allowed) had a clause indicating to e-mail to [email protected] certain information if a person wanted the warranty.

This new first message does not have the e-mail clause in it. It has the information needed, but not the direction as to the e-mail. Therefore, a Prius owner wanting to purchase the warranty does not have directions.

    (posted elsewhere, too)

Talked to Troy Fri. 100K warranty now $990, not $985.

I'm giving him $1000 for saving so many people so much money. He can go to Subway. ;)
