Your deodorant is going to dry out. I thought if you were this concerned with doing this economically, that might be important to you.

I've been collecting these caps for a while, as I have been making these for my other cars for a few years.
Just FYI, the Bluetooth option works great with the iPhone. And with os4, you can listen to music (iPod or streamed), use the Tom Tom navigation app with voice directions, and take and initiate calls. Very fluid.

Well, sure I know there are other options out there... great options too...

I wanted something that was simple, easily removable, to my liking... and most of all.... something I made personally.

I like tinkering and trying to find uses for things otherwise just thrown out. I was just sharing, hoping to help some likeminded members. But I guess buying your own iphone holder is an option...

    Great job on this project.

I love when people take pics of their projects and post them.

Give Steve Jobs a link to this thread:D He could use some help.

I really liked your re-purposing of the deodorant top (don't let anyone tell you it stinks:cool:)

It look good it's functional and also cost nothing.

I was thinking of the possibility of using a large "hole punch" to make the two necessary cuts in the cap.... That would make it much easier to make. Anyone have any expertise in this area?

Are you planning on going into production?:D

A punch would be difficult because you need a punch and die (the mating part that goes behind the piece). With the contour and tight spaces that would be difficult.

You could build a jig and use a router running on low speed (so you don't melt the plastic) with one of these bits.

    Whiteside Template Router Bits

The bearing on the router bit runs against a template you make and guides the bit.

Production? Well just to do something with all my deodorant caps! I thought it would be fun to make and just give away... That is if it didn't take 30 min per cap to make (to my exacting standards!).

The end of the metal piece has a short 90 bend in it that slips between the panels as shown... when the glove box is closed, it is 100% secure and will not fall. When opening the glove box, there is a chance the mount will slip from its secure position, but really this has only happened if the phone is in place.

do it! you'll like it! it's kind of green too... ie environmentally friendly!
