I purchased my 2010 Prius in June 2009. I got my complementary XM subscription. At the end of the 90 days I upgraded by calling the phone number provided by members here. I got the year for about $70ish.
Now my first year is about to come to a close ... can I get a "special" renewal price for another year of XM? If so, how, or who, do I call?

I'm pretty sure that if I have to pay full price, I can do without XM.

    Thanks

Go to the XM website and get the number to call. Let me know if you are able to get the $77 fee again. Mine will be coming up in a few months.

You need to call XM. Look up the number on their web site. Tell them you don't want to renew because you don't listen enough to justify the renewal rate so to please let you know when your year is up so you can plan accordingly. They will try to talk you into renewing. Ask them if you can renew for the $77 that a friend just did and see what happens.

You have to appear to be ready to walk but how hard you have to work depends greatly on the representative you get on the phone.

I would try to pay by check so they don't have a credit card number on file, even if it costs a couple of bucks extra, but that is your choice. If they have a credit card on file, they can renew for you.

Keep us informed, lots of people will be coming up for renewal soon.

+1 on the posts above. You can also get the number to call from channel 1 on your radio and your radio ID# from channel 0.

I purchased my vehicle in April and have been receiving phone calls several times a day from XM for months since I discontinued my portable XM radio at the same time. I answered the phone once last week and told them that the reason why I discontinued the portable was due to my purchase of a new car with XM. I also said I wanted to think about the "savings" plan they offered me on the phone ($142.25). I then ignored their calls for the past week. I answered their call this evening and cut the guy off saying I already told XM why I cancelled the portable XM when I cancelled it months ago and then again last week. I then said that I was not happy with the $142.45 offer for a year's service and stated that I had found a website (it was mentioned here on PriusChat in a recent post) that said XM had a special one-year renewal offer of $101.94 plus $11.89 in music royalties for a total cost of $113.83 and I wanted to talk with him about that for my car. Immediate response: "Oh no, we have much better offers than that."

I was able to get an XM subscription for 1 year for half-off: $77 plus $11.78 in music royalties for a total of $88.78. I also requested a paper bill and had the $2 fee waived.I can call Customer Service and get Nav Traffic and Weather for $7 per year (I found Nav Traffic to be very useful when I'm in big cities, especially in California.

Good luck and definitely play hard to get!

    I suggest trying this route.

    Update
So I called 1-800-347-0600 and was quoted $164 (that was 1 year + royalty + tax). I said too much. They patched me to some retention department and I repeated that $164 was too much. They said they could do $88 (including royalty) ... last year it was $77 + $14 royalty. I took the $88 + tax.

I guess you have to be willing to walk away.

Of course I may have just lost that if XM goes belly-up!

This is helpful and I'm saving your info for when my free trial period ends. I'd like to know what subscription package you got for $88.78. Thanks.

The $88,78 is for XM radio (including the royalty fees as noted above). The $113.83 is the total cost of XM plus the Best of Sirius (Howard Stern+ Playboy and some others, but not traffic). It remains to be seen what our charges will be after the year is up. One thing I've noticed is that their customer service is totally incompetent. Often, they've gotten thing totally wrong on my account and I've gotten "disconnected" after long holds. I am always polite, however. but they suck .
