    Yeah, I ended up grounding it to the frame because I could not get the suggested bolt off.

    Hi there - I don't think that this issue has been addressed yet?

    It seems logical that the "kit" would provide "Fog lights Off when High beams are engaged" functionality.

    As with the OP, I'm not really interested in getting a ticket for having 6 lights illuminated.

    Well there is an "on" light on the foglight button (granted, that requires that you actually look down).

    chances are, you won't need your fogs + low beam in a high beam situation (i.e. a dark, somewhat empty country road where you flick btwn low and high beam as oncoming traffic approaches). I wouldn't be using fogs since they only make it seem like the road is better illuminated by filling in the darker void near the front bumper.

    I just finished installing the 3G OEM Fog Lights. Took about five hours but I was careful and took my time. It's not particularly difficult for anyone with a modicum of mechanical skill, but it's largely due to the PDF instruction file at the beginning of this thread, along with Prius42's excellent additional tips in post #28. The instructions that came with the kit were lacking and were essentially useless by comparison.

    The bottom line is that the OEM Fog Light kit is of high quality and well worth the cost and effort to install. You end up with a 3G Pkg II-IV Prius that looks like the top level Pkg V.

    The worst thing is trying to figure out what to do with the leftover, grey plastic block-off plates.

    I sold mine for $10 to a member here. He used them for a plug-in (EBH) holder.

    I forgot to mention some of my own findings on the OEM fog light install:

    1. Step 5.3 - I think the switch is installed upside down (indicator light on bottom). I suspect that the light should be on top, with the icon below. I say this primarily because the icon should show the light shining 'downward', not upward.

    2. Step 6.10 - Attaching the ground wire and relay in the engine compartment using the bolts shown isn't particularly easy, but it's not impossible. I was able to do it, but I also had access to various types of ratchets/extensions/sockets, including a universal-joint extension. If not for that, I probably would have used alternate attaching points, too.

    3. Step 7.0 - The instructions for the final wiring to the passenger side is a little confusing. The notes and instructions recommend that the fog light wiring follow the park light wiring. While that's okay for the driver's side, the passenger side has to go in some other fashion since the passenger's side park light wiring seems to take a route along the firewall. There's just not enough passenger side harness for that.

    I followed the driver's side harness, then continued the passenger side wiring between the plastic lower shroud and the radiator core support to the fog light housing, holding the harness in place with a couple of the included zip-ties. I'm pretty sure that was the intent, but it's not entirely clear.

    4. The adjustment knobs on the fog lights don't seem to do anything. I tried for about 30 minutes to raise the beam on the driver's side to no avail. Turning the adjustment knob moved the beam neither up nor down.


    It'd be nice if there was a way to get the fog light indicator on the dash to work, but I sure wouldn't spend a lot of time or effort working on it.

    I was looking at the location of the factory fog light switch on the turn signal stalk of a V this evening. Frankly, I don't see that location being any better or worse than having it replacing one of the unused switch block-off plates. I suppose if all of the switch openings were needed to be used for something else, it would mean something.

    I know that the upper left opening normally has the V's headlight washer button.

    Next to in on the upper right is the solar pkg ventilation switch.

    Lower left is the omnipresent instrument lighting rheostat.

    Does anyone know what switch normally goes in the lower right position from the factory?

    I installed mine this past weekend and all is working great. The only change I did was run the wires through the upper fender through the big grommet on the door frame. I didn't wont to go through the firewall, it looked like a pain to do and didn't want take a chance scraping the wires.

    Also the the navigation screen finally dims dark at night, which would stay white at night and be blinding.

    Do you have pictures of the cable running through the door frame? Also, the navigation should dim at night as long as you don't have the instrument light intensity dial turned up all the way, i.e. past the "click". Did this not work for you?

    Got mine installed. I found the firewall part to be the hardest (mostly b/c I didn't have electrical tape that was strong enough... must've been a billion years old or sth).

    The foglights appear to be better than the Gen 2 but it's just a first impression. I do love the option of having it on without the low beams (but with the parking lights and taillights). I have noticed that it runs just as hot as the Gen 2. Hopefully it doesn't have the same cracking lens issue as the Gen 2 (they cracked when you ran them for prolonged periods in the rain or snow b/c of the temperature different when the cooler rain drops or cold snowflakes hit the scorching hot lens cover).


    @rudiger: Yeah the switch is upside down. Also, typically the manual headlight leveller rotary switch goes there (bottom right) but I'm not sure on the 2010.

    They'd been sitting in my garage since May and finally had these installed on Saturday. They look and operate great. I find the light whiter than my Gen 2 that came with factory fogs. Really looks a heck of a lot better than the plastic placeholder fill-ins.

    another satisfied customer here...installed mine a couple of weeks ago when it was still hot/humid, so that sucked.

    ....I highly recommend people order a 4"x8" piece of headlight protection film from lamin-x or xpel to protect these glass lenses (just cut to fit the lenses) its about $10 for some piece of mind...30mil thick film protects the glass lenses from breakage.

    Found a weak point for HID Users. Inside the lens there's a spot where more of the black plastic housing is exposed. I think it's to prevent light from shining upwards?

    I ran a stress test with 3000k HID 35W kit. Ambient temperature 57* in direct sunlight and although the black plastic housing where more of it is exposed to the bulb gets extremely hot to the touch, The plastic seems to be fine and in tact.

    PROPS to the high quality Hardened plastic

    I ran this test for 30+ minutes in a stand still environment so there was no air cooling etc.

    I just hope the glass is more resistant than the one used in the Gen 2. There are quite a number of us who have cracked foglamp lens due to heat stress (the crack's on the inside so we know it's not a rock that hit it).

    The Gen 3's fogs are pretty darn hot. I would hate to see how it fares when cold rain (e.g. winter) is pelting upon it.

    Do the plastic covering of the bullet connectors come off?

    just did my install today about to post pics. No the plastic does not come off the bullet protectors. Put the male end into the female end with all the plastic as well.
