Anyone else find the new SKS door handle sensor annoying?

I really liked the "push" rubber button from the generation II. Don't like this touch-sensor tech on the door handles...doesn't always work.

    Anyone else with me?

Works fine for me, and much more attractive than the ugly black buttons.

agreed, and you can always touch the top and bottom sensors at the same time. Works for me.

Manual even recommends touching top and bottom if you have problems with just the top. Just the top has worked fine for me, of course I've only used it a couple time because my salesman told me only the IV and V had SKS and I had to use the key fob to open my driver's door... Live and learn...

+1. I have found it to be very reliable.

Silent, I love the SKS on my Prius. I was carrying packages in both of my hands and I was able to open the passenger side door without having to reach into my pocket to fish out the keys and/or "feel" around for a small black rubber button to push. I simply slipped my hand into the handle, and the sensor detected my hand/fingers, found the identifying key fob in my front pockets and unlocked the doors with a beep.

I pulled the passenger side handle and the door opened up without issue. On the IV it's available for three doors - driver's, front passenger and rear hatch and it's heavenly...

Just out of curiosity, what seems to be the issue with your SKS and why do you prefer the black button (TOUCH) vs. the newer GEN III sensor (TOUCHLESS)...? The hatch in the IV & V has the Rubber buttons and I don't like it as mush as the touchless in the front doors on my IV. Would like to understand your opinion better...?

i find when i'm washing the car and have the key fob on me, the car would constantly be beeping when the back side of the handle gets wet...i had to put the key down somewhere to stop it from going off. other than that it works very nice.

No, my wife suffers from Sjogrens Syndrome which makes her skin very dry and she has a devil of a time getting the doors to work. Her Lexus has the buttons and it works every time. I find myself using both top and bottom sensors all the time now. I don't like it.

Mostly sensitivity issues. With the old black button, it worked everytime I pressed it. The whole "touchless" sensor doesn't always work if you are almost "on the go" pressing the top of just the bottom, though it does work pretty ok if you touch both top and bottom at the same time.

Plus, and now I'm really nickpicking, with a black car I can only imagine how beat up it might look with all the nail scratches in the future.

Ah, ok that makes 3 of us... :D

This is exactly how the Gen II SKS functions. You pull on the handle and it opens. The black buttons are for locking, not unlocking.

Sensors work fine for me as well though like maximus96 they were beeping at me when I was washing my car the other day... guess I'll take the keys out of my pocket.

I have my III set to open all doors, which is nice when taking passengers for a ride or putting something in the hatch. Only wish there was a remote release for the hatch!

I could never understand why people want a remote release, unless they are really describing a powered hatch opener. With a remote release you still need to lift the hatch. With the SKS, all you do is lift. It works out the same. If you unlock the doors the hatch is open for anyone to lift.

    Perhaps you can enlighten me.

I've occasionally had it fail to lock on me, but not often. After a few times, I got used to making sure I don't push too lightly (so more of my finger is touching the sensor - nothing to do with the pressure itself), and holding my finger there a bit longer. I think it requires something longer than a very brief touch, to avoid accidental inputs.

It wouldn't surprise me if people have more or less trouble due to different styles of touching the sensor. For example, my dealer instructed me to swipe my finger along the two ridges to lock. I just touch briefly, however.

When I got my first Prius in 2005 I had a devil of a time with the buttons as I would be locking and unlocking at the same time. With the 2010 there is sometimes a delay in the locking with the door sensors but I love SKS overall and do miss the sensor in the hatch. (But I love the solar roof more than that sensor ;)
