We ordered in late August, initially a package 4 and then changed to a package 6 (the next day). Our change didn't take at the dealer so now I'm told I can have a package 4 next week or if I want the package 6 I have to wait for a 2006, about 2 months. I think I can live without the bluetooth and Nav (although I would like it!) but I do want good audio. I test drove a package 6 and was not real impressed with the audio. Does anyone have any comments on the package 4 audio? Is a package 4 with an aftermarket upgrade a better choice than package 6 or will I regret not waiting for a package 6? I have an iPod so I do not need the cd changer. Thanks for your help.

IMO, you will not regret not waiting for a pkg. 6, if the audio is your sole concern. The base stereo sounds as good or better (which still isn't great). Save the $ and go aftermarket.

On the other hand, there are benefits to waiting for a 2006 over a 2005...especially if you take delivery after 1/1 so you can take the tax credit. There are a number of minor improvements/changes to the 2006, which are in a number of threads here.

I specifically ordered a package 5 because I wanted the better audio, specifically a fully integrated 6-disc changer, which does transmit CDText to the MFD unlike the dealer/port installed 6-disc, and the cassette player, however I firmly believe that the JBL system is quite a bit better than the stock system. I'm not an audiophile though. I've read most of the complaints about the JBL system's sound quality and I'm sure those folks have good ears and credible sound experience, however the car is not a luxury car, which includes a lot more interior sound insulation which changes how sounds behave in the cabin environment, but I digress. I got a package 5 also because I couldn't justify the package 6 cost. I think that is the middle ground for you. See if your dealer can bring in a package 5 from another dealer or from his next shippment. That would get you the good sound system and most of the interior features of the Package 6 without the additional cost. You do give up HID headlamps, which I think are highly overrated and very expensive to replace, and you give up the fogs, which have met with only moderate appeal. You loose VSC, however if you know how to drive a vehicle without it now, you won't miss it on this one.

The dealer can bring in any package and color combination you wish by trading off a vehicle in their existing allotment with another dealer.
