$2.47 today in Georgia. Not sure I trust the govt. with another tax but wouldn't mind a higher fuel tax to fund tax rebates for owners of economical vehicles

Low gas prices are bad for any carbon legislation, which has been put off right now for shorter range economic & jobs issues. High gas prices would accelerate change in the car industry to hybrids, and push carbon issues to the front burner. But the economy is too fragile to support $4 gas again. Somebody has put a lid on oil futures speculation, but the media isn't talking.

We can probably tolerate a few years delay in long range carbon issues, but this heightens the danger of a catastrophic event due to the Arctic ice cap melting that is occurring right now. If that happens, all those chickens in the Washington barnyard will be running scared.

I see the hybrids issue as related to the environmental issue. And low gas prices are bad for both. But good for the economy--which is the priority right now.
