Just got a 2008 Prius with Navigation. I will probably have several questions, but i will limit them to one at a time. I have a Garmin which sorts the Favorites by "distance" from the current position. I followed the My Places sorting instructions in the Toyota Nav manual, but I don't see the "sort by distance" option. Is there a flaw or am I doing something wrong?

    Thanks in advance

I don't recall being able to sort My Places, but it does sort Points of Interest by distance. It may be possible. It's pretty funny where we live, because the NAV system uses straight-line distance, where we often have to drive around large bodies of water. It can take two hours to drive to a restaurant ten miles away.

It's on page 24 of the Nav manual.

This is in reply to an old post, but I am frustrated with the same issue. I had a Garmin and it did sort its "My Places" by distance from current position, which is a reasonable and ergonomic approach. I noticed the "Sort by Attribute" on the Prius Nav but there is no way to tell it the attribute is distance. From what I can see in the Nav manual, "Attribute" refers to either the Home or Quick Access setting.

Just another disappointing feature in the Prius Nav system. I almost wish I hadn't used a Garmin previously as I'm reminded every day how inferior the Prius Nav is.

Went back to my old Garmin. Why compound the frustration for having spent so much for the Prius NAV with the continuing frustration of trying to use it? Yes, I took the time to learn how. I wasn't going to let it defeat me. I like gadgets. And for that reason, I won't continue with one that doesn't work well just because I spent a lot of $$ on it.

It's a matter of personal preference. I have three Garmin GPS units (car, marine, and hiking), and I think they make great systems. Still, I prefer the Nav system built into our Gen II Prius, as compared to the Garmin automotive unit that we have. Ideally I would like to cherry pick the best features from each, but I don't get that option. I would like to add some of the marine and hiking features into the automotive units, such as the ability to set preferential routes.
