I've spoken to Danny offlist about a new feature I'd like to see implemented. He says it can be done. (But didn't indicate one way or another if he'd want to do it.)

For you chat-room wise, it probably has a simple name I'm not aware of, so I'll just describe it.

In one window, members can make continuous posts, each post preceded by his or her screen name. There are no posts in their own windows. The time of each post is also indicated.

Example: I post asking if Prius windows are really tinted. Tideland posts and says, "yes", and briefly describes what it is. Bill Merchant posts, asking what people think is the best frozen pizza. DaveInOly posts and asks if anyone has seen the Cecil and Gromit movie. Laughing Man, seeing Bill's question two posts above, posts that there's no such thing as a good frozen pizza. And so on.

You can scroll up as far as you want to see what kinds of things people have been talking about the last few hours. If you see a question someone raised, or an opinion expressed, that you want to respond to, you do so---even though that poster may be long gone (but might come back).

I was on a board for a couple of years where the format was like PriusChat, with categorized forums and threads. But the most popular "place" was this "lounge".

Often threads were created if a topic posted in the lounge "caught on".

Advantage? You have a thought, a question, a joke, an off-the-wall opinion that's not worth creating a thread (or you might wish it is, and want to test the water).
Most posts would be non-Prius-related, but there's nothing to prevent occasional simple observations or questions. Your post may or may not draw a response.

For those of us who spend too much time here (in my case, semi-retired), it's a great way to hang out for a bit, if we've exhausted posting on all the threads we want to. And members get to know each other better.

    Are you interested?

I'd be interested. Of course my husband might not like it, since I'll probably spend more time on the coputer because of it, but he'll get over it. :p

Sounds like the chat rooms of the previous site. Prillian? I do like the idea of being able to IM in real time with people. Occassionally I want to grab someone for a quick question or a personal "hi how are ya." For that, I usually ask for their AIM/Y!/ICQ/MSN name.

I also like the idea of a chat room. Provided that it's easy. Danny's starting a new job, upkeeping this site, restoring lost data from the site crash, implementing the functionality we grew accustomed to in the old site, working on T-shirts and putting together a calendar. If it goes on his wish list, that would be great but I wouldn't attempt to give him a timeframe.

    I agree.

But...how does he have enough time today to post that he graduated from USC?

(University of South Carolina, not the small, private school in L.A.) ;)

    you mean like a chatroom??

that is already up, its the shoutbox link at the top of the page.

and i dont think i've heard of the movie you mentioned. i did just go see "In her shoes"...its a Prius movie so what can i say? i enjoyed it very much. Cameron Diaz is a major Greenie who also drives a Prius.

also saw "March of the Penguins"... if you have not had a chance to see it, i highly recommend it. very very imformative

Woo-hoo! It's up! You can click "float" to open it in a new window, then minimize it and keep it handy in your tray.

DANNY: thanks, guy. Is there a statue of you yet on the Gamecock campus?

That's pretty cool. Now the feedback rolls in. . .

On the "old site" there was the chat room and I believe we could see who was in the chatroom. When reading a thread, there is a line showing who is also reading that thread. Is it possible to see who's in the Shoutbox at any given time? Doesn't have to be on the main page, but if we could go to the Shoutbox page and see a list of people currently viewing that page, it would give an indication if we're talking to people or if we're shouting at nothing.

Members "in" the Shoutbox at a given time are listed in a small box in the lower right-hand corner of the main Shoutbox page. You have to scroll down a little to see it. Yesterday I saw up to 5 members in there at the same time.

However, I did notice yesterday, when you were briefly posting, that your name wasn't in there with the others Don't know why.

What I'd like even better is a way of letting those logging on to PC to be able to see who's in the Shoutbox BEFORE they click on it. Since we already have the list of PCers who are "active" at a given time, it's be nice if those using Shoutbox have an asterisk by their name, or an "S" or whatever.
