I don't know that filter but you can remove the existing filter and compare the filter outside diameter and the size of the threaded hole in the center. If the filter will physically fit then it will probably work.

Of course it would be best to purchase the correct Toyota oil filter but I assume that is not available to you.

Rock Auto lists that filter for a 2005 Prius:cool: so you are good to go.
    2005 TOYOTA PRIUS Oil Filter

Always check to see if a filter is right for your car, there is more to it than fit. Bypass pressure relief varies for different filters, some don't even have a bypass valve in them, and then there is the presence or lack of an anti drain-back valve.

I agree that ideally, you would inquire into issues such as oil filter bypass valve pressure etc. However, the fact that the filter is listed in the RockAuto catalog as being compatible does not mean that the filter is equivalent in performance to the correct Toyota oil filter.

For example, if you do a Prius spark plug search on RockAuto you will find many possible plugs offered for sale, including copper core plugs and platinum plugs etc. I hope that no one would think those plugs are equivalent in performance to the original equipment iridium spark plugs which are rated for a 120K mile service life.

That is why I said that if the oil filter fits physically, then it might be OK but there's no guarantee that it will perform the same as the correct oil filter. However the OP is in the Middle East and apparently has trouble obtaining the correct parts, so a Brand X filter is better than leaving the old filter in place...

I might have interpreted what you said incorrectly

I can see that being interpreted as OK to give it a try, which is probably not what you meant.

If Rock lists an oil filter for a car, that means the oil filter manufacturer lists it for the car. If it's a reputable mainstream manufacturer, then I don't see a problem with that. Bypass pressure, anti-drainback valve, flow capacity, pressure rating, filtration, etc will all have been considered.

I just used the computer at Walmart to find correct Fram oil filter for my Prius. It is the proper size and listing for 2004-2009 Prius. I assume this should be fine but a little concerned as I see lots of people stating "use an original Toyota filter". Any reason to doubt the quality before I proceed w/change tomorrow?

Since you already have the filter and I assume you are not going to go to the trouble of returning it back to AutoZone, why not install it and see what happens.

I think we get the Bosch 3311 filter for our '07 Prius.

According to that part finder, the 3311 is the right one.

This thread has had me very confused, but I believe I have it sorted out now. We have two vehicles— an '04 Prius and a '95 Chevy S10. The Prius takes the Bosch 3311 oil filter and the S10 takes the Bosch 3331 oil filter. The Prius does NOT take the 3331 oil filter.
