Well, After 33,000 miles, running tire pressures at 40 psi front and 38 psi rear, and rotating them every 5,000 mile, the Brigdestone Ecopia 20's that came on my Prius were shot. I just replaced them with Michelin Energy Saver A/S tires after reading reviews of improved mileage. I had a wheel alignment done as well to protect my investment.

It's to soon to tell if my mileage has improved as I have only driven about 20 miles since. What I can tell you is that road noise is much lower and the car feels more sure footed.

In the morning after the car has sat over night to be sure the tires are nice and cool, I will adjust the pressures to 40/38 like I kept the Ecopias.

My average mileage has been about 52 mpg. I will update this post after i've driven abit about any difference in mileage good or bad.

Do you have the before and after alignment print out to post?

I do have a print out which I will try to scan and post later. I can tell you the alignment prior to was pretty good. The only thing out was the toe in on the passenger front wheel and it was very slight.

The Ecopias wore evenly and I had no issues prior relating to anything indicating that I needed an alignment. I had it done to protect my tire investment.

I too, will be getting new tires within 3k miles or so. After much searching and reading I too have decided on the Energysavers.
Did you stay stock 185/65 R15, or like I am planing on doing, steping up one size, to the 195/60 R15 size.
I will be looking forward to reading your future posts on your likes or dislikes the tires! As well as MPG info.!

I stayed with the stock size which is 195/65R 15 for the 2010 Prius.

I will try to post daily reviews for awhile. Next week I will be taking a trip that will log about 600 miles. That should be be noteable.

Can anyone tell me what the average break in period is for new tires?

We have Michelin Energy Saver Tires on our Prius. I took the stock Yoko Avid tires,195x65x15 and replaced them with Michelin Energy
Saver Tires, 195x65x15. That was about one year ago.

All 4 tires have max sidewall pressure filled with 44 psi of nitrogen from Costco where I purchased the tires.

We now have 23,000 miles on the Energy Saver Tires. They are wearing well and ride nicely. I expect 60,000 miles from these tires.

I noticed an increase, of 2-4 mpg with these tires over the stock Yoko Avid tires.

I believe these tires are the number one most fuel efficient tire you can buy anywhere in the world.

We recently had Costco put the Michelin Energy Saver A/S tires on our 05 Prius. Be aware that there is no mileage warranty on these tires. I have not seen any significant increase in mileage. We are still averaging around 48 mpg, which is what I was getting on the Michelin Hydroedge that we replaced.

I got up this morning and adjusted my tire pressure to 40 psi front and 38 psi rear. Did about 35 miles around town today and nothing notable fuel mileage wise. So far it is about the same. I seem to be the opposite of the car's mileage rating. I average about 48 mpg around town and about 52 mpg highway. This has been since new. So far of course, I have yet to even go a hunderd miles on the tires.

They are with out a doubt quiter and the car rides better. Smoother and more sure footed.

Something else that could just be subjective, but it seems like it glides more. Like it picks up more speed down hill and maintains its speed slightly longer when off the gas pedal. If this is so and not just in my head, I should notice some mileage improvement before long.

Just so you all know. I reset trip A at each fill up to track the mileage per tank. I subtract 2 mpg from that reading as the read out seems about 2 mpg higher then it really is. So the numbers I post are 2 mpg less then the display reads. I had already driven about 350 miles on this tank before the tires were installed and I will not be reseting the trip untill I fill up again.

I reset trip B at each oil change which I do every 5,000 miles along with tire rotations as I bought a 60,000 mile service plan before they changed the oil change intervals to 10,000 miles. I was unabled to get the dealer to adjust my plan and refund the money for half the oil changes so I make them honor the contract for oil changes every 5000 miles with 0W-20 motor oil. I watch them to make sure they don't cheap out and use regular 5W-20. So far, so good.

Anyway, back to the point, I have been getting 50 mpg as my 5,000 mile average. Again, sutracting 2 mpg from the dispaly reading. I have about 1,600 or so miles before my next oil change. That will be 35,000 miles. Although premature I will have the tires rotated as well just to keep on track with the service contract. At that point I will rest trip B again.

Well, that's all for. Stay tuned for my next update.

That's good - usually fuel economy drops a bit the first couple thousand miles as the tires break in. They should slightly improve over time.

    Good Morning All,

I took an unplanned round trip to Tarboro, NC from my home in Henderson, NC last night. Mostly country road and HWY. This trip was about 180 miles. I fueled up in Tarboro before heading home. My normal MPG for this trip, which I make regularly as I have family there, is 52. Last nights average was 53.6 MPG. A 1.6 MPG improvement. With only about 250 miles on the new energy savers, this looks promising.

I've always wondered about this but never asked: How do you get different size tires to fit on the same wheel? Or do you have to buy new wheels?

The 15 at the end is the critical dimension, it is the diameter of the wheel where the tire seats. You can't fudge that.

For other numbers, like 195/65...the 195 is the width of the tire in mm at it's widest point and the 65 indicates that the rubber part of the tire is 65% as tall as it is wide.

Each tire size has recommended min and max rim widths. As long as the tire you want to use recommends a range of rim widths that includes your rim width, the tire will work properly on your rim.

It also has to fit your car and work with your ABS system. Most Prii people that change tire size stay relatively close to the same outside diameter, so fit and ABS don't become an issue.

Both tires will work on a Prius rim.

However after much thought and consideration, I will be purchasing the 185/65 R15 due to the resulting RPM error.
Prius OEM is 855 RPM. Michelin 185/65 R15 RPM's are 851, close eough!

Cannot find Energy Saver A/S tires anywhere. Coscto, America's Tire, Sears all say "National Back Order"

And my stock yoko's are shot @ 35000

I got Mich ES A?S 2 weeks ago at Big O. Some large dealers have some left. I think Mich factory will make more soon.

If you want to keep the same rims on your Gen2 Prius and go to slightly larger tires 205/60-15 works also. I had them on my '05 and they are slightly larger in circumference which served to correct the build in speedometer error.

They put a bit more rubber on the road for better handling and braking, probably a couple of percent loss in fuel economy.

Everyone's out of these. I finally found a place that could ship in 4 from Memphis. Going to have them put on next week.

exactly the same experience.. IMHO to see better MPG you need to adjust driving; glide more and allow for longer regenerative braking.

    <br>
darn.. I was lucky to get them for X-mass.
