I'm about to buy a Prius IV, and I love the solar roof, but like many I would rather just pay for that than shell out another $1800 for the NAV package which has a lot of stuff I don't care about.

Having searched on this forums a bit about this, it doesn't seem like there's anything I can do besides whether to get both ($3600) or none, but I figured I'd ask...

Has anyone figured out a way around this problem? Maybe done a custom install either at a dealer or on their own? If you're in the New York City area and have or know anything about this, please let me know!

    Thanks,
    Scott

I may be in the minority but I feel the solar roof is rather gimmicky and not very useful for those who do not live in hot climates. If the unit was strong enough to charge the hybrid battery then maybe it would be worth the cost but short of that I'm not sure it is the wisest use of your money. If you like it then my points moot. Good luck whatever you decide. :)

So I actually don't care much about the fan / cooling feature. I just love the look. It's really, really cool. But while I am willing to pay $1800ish for that cool look, I refuse to pay $3600 for it and I really don't care about anything else in the NAV package.

The Prius has 3 packages that are factory installed, Nav, solar sun roof+ nav, and advanced technology+nav. Nav is the only package that could possibly be installed afterwards. Solar roof and ATP, no way, not by an average owner. If you own a body shop and willing to pay for all the parts and man hours then it might be possible. The cost would exceed the price you'd pay upfront for a factory installed Prius. Besides, Once you get it all installed, there's a chance that the performance will be sub par compared to the factory installed. If you don't like the nav, don't use it. There's a setting on the nav screen to disable auto switch to nav screen. Once you've disable it, set it to the audio screen. It will not switch back to nav screen unless you hit the nav button.

wow Canadian Prius is expensive. $37395 for tech package. The US Prius with Tech pack is only about 34500. You guys have the solar roof but We got the LED headlights and 17" rims. In essence, our V/ATP is the same as your touring and tech pack combined we traded LKA for the solar sun roof.

Since the Prius not built in NA there is a 6% duty on the car :(

which is over 2gs on 34gs but there was a 2g rebate from the province (state) government when we got the car
