Today may be the day we purchase our first hybrid. Couple of questions:

    1) We're getting the solar package so about the nav map-set. What is the latest version for the 2010 Prius? I want to make certain I get the latest available prior to finalizing the deal.

    2) What programmable features are available? Can the door auto lock/unlock feature be programmed?

    3) What can I negotiate in terms of roadside assistance?

    Thanks in advance!

Hey Paul, Since we're getting a III with Solar, what about the auto dimming homelink mirror.....I read a thread that mentioned it cant be added to the solar III? Is this true?

I don't see why it couldn't be added. I don't have the Solar Roof, but the mirror mount is attached to the windshield, so it should have no bearing on the sunroof. I just ordered one from Amazon.com, Gentex GENK41a Auto Dimming Mirror w/HomeLink for $158.00 and free shipping. Dealer told me it would cost $500 to add it! They told me that when I tried to get them to throw it in as part of the deal. Did not ask again after the sale, but the price probably would have gone down. They are getting my windows tinted at dealer cost of $150.00, not bad considering the number of windows the Prius has...

Go get it! But be prepared to walk away if you don't get want you really want ($ wise and options). Figure out the deals you can get on on-line sites and take the numbers with you.

Well, I visited two dealers today and both laughed at my Truecar quotes from the Atlanta area. They said no way can they sell that car for that price.

Needless to say I came home Prius-less.

Looks like I'm gonna have to make a trip to Atlanta to get the deal I want.

Seems this is where the deals are right now! Will probably be worth it for you to drive a little to save a lot! Jason was real good working with another member who flew in from CA. They worked the deal over the phone/e-mail and Jason had it ready for delivery when he arrived.

Another member from TX just e-mailed me telling me she purchased today and could have saved $2000 purchasing here if she had the time to fly to Atlanta and drive back. She said she entered several zip codes into Truecar.com and consistently found Atlanta to have the lowest prices. I'm not sure why that is, but those who can travel here, they really can save some money!

    When you headed up?

Get roadside assistance from your insurance. It will be cheaper, and is like $2 extra to your 6-month premium. If you ask for these things from the dealer, they'll throw in extras you spend and wont need.

What is the price your dealer is offering you? We can give you an idea if it is a good price.

No, dealers will not install the auto-dimming mirror with homelink on models with a sunroof. They will only install it on non-sunroof models.

And the dealers generally laugh at your truecar price, that means they are not serious about selling you the car. Tell them you'll take your business elsewhere. Or just get a truecar.com certified price from a dealer near you. Dealers are required to honor that truecar certified price or they will lose their certification.

For comparison purposes, you should spend no more than $25,000 on a Prius III w/Nav & Solar. Get them to throw in free tint while you're at it.

    Ronson,

Do you know the difference between the mount on the mirror in the solar Prius and the rest? Seems they will all mount the same, and being as the IV w/Solar has the HomeLink Mirror it seems it should be able to be added... Maybe a Toyota Dealer won't do it, but a good stereo install shop should be able to...

Here's a link to the homeLink Mirror Thread, Post #20 says he contacted three dealerships who said they could install the HomeLink Mirror on a III w/Solar:

    HomeLink Mirror Thread

I'm hoping to have mine installed by the end of the week...

I dont know what the difference is. Maybe the wiring up in the overhead console is different in sunroof models, that's why. But Toyota dealers won't do it "officially" on sunroof models as evident from the dealer accessories page i pointed out. However, yes, many have had luck with dealers who have found a way around it, as there are no official install instructions for sunroof models, and some dealers are probably worried about liability doing non-sanctioned installs.

But this problem only exists with Prius IIIs w/Sunroof, a not so common package combination.
